Does this mod work for the tC? Are the plugs in the same spots?

I'm so confused.

I went to autozone (it was a big store too with everything), and they didn't even have like single LEDs, at least I didnt see them.

They some in groups but they seemed too big for one and didn't have any wires.

No one is mentioning this, but are the ones that are from autozone pre-wired? I assume so right cause everyone is talkin about how it is so easy, you buy them, and basically put them in where the wires go...

But I couldnt' find any of that?

What about these?

http://randode.net/store/product30.html

Are those basically what are used? They are prewired so you can just attatch them... Otherwise I don't know how to wire things and I dont want to buy wire. I want it to be simple =(

the link from randode are LEDs. you can get cheaper - and brighter - ones from www.oznium.com

those leds have 2 wires - a positive and a negative. you connect the positive to the green wire which comes out of this blue plug on your xb - you haev to remove your shifter console to get to it. the negative wire connects to a ground, i used the bolt that holds the ebrake.

yes, those are prewired. you dont have to worry about resistors or anything. like i said, just connect to a power and ground(negative) source and you're set.

i hope this helps a bit. do a lot of reading on this site regarding LEDs and wiring and you'll be okay.

Okay makes perfects sense, thanks midtwondesi. I just couldn't find any at autozone that were prewired then it made me confused and I was wondering if guys were using their own wires (which you can do but Idont feel like doing).

Oznium IS way cheaper, I wanted to get some more cathodes anyway, so I'll probably order some soon. thanks

np. if u get the oznium LEDs, be sure to use only 1 per cup holder. i was gona go gung-ho and do 2 per holder, but 1 is so bright that at night, the lit-up bottles of water reflect off the windshield. it's not so annoying with 1 led but with 2 i think it would haev become a problem.

I put two in the rear cupholder... no complaints so far, though I have a MyShaladan airfreshener there that takes up most of the room. Looks great... Stupid LEDs are addicting though... looking for unique places to put more...

What about instead of getting cathodes.... Lining those up underneath your seat for the people in the back? You can wire alot of them together without having to install like a fuse inthe line right? And I'm talkin about putting all of those into the blue plug also. I don't know how long they are so that might not work as nicely.

Use 'Mini Add A Fuse' to tap the fuse box... all empties are hot, one is hot without key. Use the ebrake mount as your ground. Tie all the grounds into that ground. Run the hot wire to the switch, then connect all the positives to the feed wire off the switch. Piece of cake other than messing with all the wire. Cathodes make it easy to get an abundance of light from one source... messing with LEDs to light a large area seems stupid. Especially with what Oznium wants for 12" cathodes... :D

EDIT.

Yeah I was curious cause its like $1.20 for 10 LEDs so I might as well grab a whole bunch... I'd use 3 for the cupholders and the rest I dont know...

Maybe I could figure something out and put them in my handles or vents. I know theres a thread around here somewhere on how to put the LEDs in the vents...

But yeah, i'd probably just do a cathode for the back seats then...

What about the trunk?! hah

I really hope I'm not sounding terribly stupid asking these questions, but.. I don't know anything about wiring, and I just got my xA three days ago. I'm looking to do some simple DIY mods over the summer. I have no experience whatsoever in modifications. I'm particularly interested in installing some in the cup holders, under the dash, and in the vents.

1) Are there any threads with how-to's for automatic transmission xA's?

2) If the LEDs ever go out, would you just go through the same process replacing them with new ones?

3) Does installing these lights void the factory warranty?

I hope someone can help me out!

1) Yes, you find can a lot cool stuff in the “Tech” section of this site and by using the search tool, even us autos. Here are a few DIY guides to get you started…

2) Well yes, kinda. You wound have to unsolder the old LED and solder a new one. But LEDs have a life span of 11 years of continuous use, so you wouldn’t need to change them for a long time.

3) Maybe. It depends on what you do and how you do it. I don’t know a lot about warranty so don’t hold me to this but I think as long as you’re not splicing wires or cutting anything then your not voiding your warranty. Although, you might have to do this to install LEDs in the cup holders, But for the cathodes in the foot wells you only have to plug in a “mini add-a-fuse” no splicing involved. But the only way to know for sure is to ask you dealer if it does void the warranty.

If you need more help just let me know. I’ve done a few light/LED mods of my own and have some experience in electrical. Check my profile for some ideas/inspiration. Hope this helps

I dont see how it would void the warranty you are just putting a wire into the plug underneath. I did this mod and it took less than 30 minutes the pain was just connceting all the wires together...7/32 hole fits the led's perfectly from oznium.com. overall this was worth the 5 dollars for lights and looks nice

I would advise not to put the cold cathodes in the footwells i had them and they are just not bright enough and are a pain...its easier to just buy the led strips and mount those....

I put cathodes in the footwells in my box and it wasn't that bad... they're not SUPER SUPER bright but in absolute darkness, they do light up the floor quite nicely... so i guess it's a matter of choice..

I wanted to do my front + rear foot wells but after i did the fronts, and saw the results, i decided not to do the rears. not worth the headache/2 hours of work IMO...

how often do the LEDs fall out of their spot?

like if you put a super big gulp in the holder.... or does it just not fit and you have to hold your drink and drive?

ok, so i tapped the red into the green and the black to the white with black line.... and then plug the blue back in- nothing turns on- the PRND2 light up but not the LED... so maybe the LED is bad.... so i swap it out for another one... still nothing.... can anyone help me?

*************** edit *******************

apparently the HVAC (AC controls) need to be plugged in, and the dome light... and the engine must be started.....

but i think i somehow closed the parallel circuit cuz now the LEDs light up, but the PRND2 & HVAC don't light up.... maybe its a fuse.... hmmm

**************** re-edit**************

i'm an idiot... and make sure that the gauge dial is turned on high.... duh....

OK but if anyone cares- i used 4 superflux LEDs, 2 green 2 orange, and the orange is surprisingly over powering.... thanks oznium!

and BTW, if i turn on/off overdrive- the bulbs flash.... random info
