Default Dash kits.

Ugh. What a waste of money. I have tried the "real brushed aluminum" dash kit. what a piece of crap. very thin aluminum with 3m stick tape, didnt work well.

tried the r-vinyl kit. It is die cut and supposed to fit. well, it sucks. not worth the money.

I know people are going to say just paint it. I am looking for a non-expensive dash kit.

What are you guys using?

I know you don't want to hear this, but....Paint is probabaly your least expensive option.

2 cans of Krylon Fusion (or another quality rattle can paint), 1 can of clear, few pieces of fine grain sandpaper. It shouldn't cost you more than 20 bucks.

Then it is original because you did it, and it looks better than some 3M stuff or vinyl.

The Pattern Tek stuff looks good on their site and in pictures, but I don't know if it is replacement or stick on.

the patterntek stuff is a replacement. they've got a core stock of interior parts, and they finish them to your requests. here's a shot of my cherry burlwood gauge pod:

it's not the cheapest option, but you get what you pay for. the price point is about the same as a stick-on kit, and looks a heck of a lot better IMO

Thanks Tony! Yes, its a replacment.... Type in Patterntek in the search box at the top of the SL site and you'll see lots of pics and feedback from the community.

I have seen the patterntek stuff, and would love to get it done. I just cant afford the prices that you guys charge. I know it would be worth it, I have seen the pics of your work and they are gorgous. Maybe you guys can run a contest and give away a free dipping, and the first person to win is me! just dreaming is all.

When you say you, cant afford the prices... did you know you dont need to do a kit? I had a guy send me a few parts that ran him $102. Folks will say its expensive but whos pinning anyone to any particular parts.... Not us. We say "Now you have a choice" for 2 reasons.... Pattern and Part choice. Tony sent me his dash and speedo... another guy sent me aTC guage surround and 2 switch plates. Also, see what someone would charge for a real wood dash kit or see what a shop would charge to wrap your dash and grab handles in "real" CF. Please dont compare this product to a stick on so with saying that, compare the cost to something that will envelope / cover the entire surface area of any part in question. Just wanted to clear the air on that for a second because its really a custom product that not 1 person who has gotten it has been un-satisfied with the quality. Thanks oni424, i wanted to address this but couldnt just post it.

PS... 2008 Xb 3 piece silver dash parts = $137 for any pattern.

Patterntek........... Now you have a choice

totally - the patterntek 'kits' are available, but not at all necessary. you can have whatever you want done, and if you want to add to it later, you can do that too. I think one guy even had just a key done!

how many dash 'kits' can you say THAT about?

I personally found the patterntek stuff to be really inexpensive when compared to a stick-on dash kit (mind you i was looking at only wood kits), then add in the fact that most the stick-on kits look kinda cheap and ricey (imo, no flames plz) because you can see the edges of the kit...

I agree that the stick on kits look very ricey. i put on e on and took it off, ordered a vinyl one and threw that p.o.s. away. I have seen KPI's stuff and it does blow me away.

Kpi, in no way would I insinuate that your stuff is anything like that cheap vinyl, hope you didn't get that idea.
