Default disconnecting the battery before I install a head unit?

hi - Do I need to disconnect the battery before installing a new head unit? Or is it good enough to just have the car turned off?

thats a good question I would also like to know... I would say probably not because you really arent touching any hot wires.. But im not 100% sure.

You don't need to disconnect the battery. It's always a good idea, but for a simple HU install, it's not all that necessary IF you know what you're doing (ie: don't cross positives and negatives). For simple plug and play harnesses I wouldn't even think twice about it, can't screw anything up that way.

If this is your first time installing a head unit, then I would. If you've done this before , then don't worry about it. It's not needed.

if you are using a harness.. connect the car harness to the radio harness first, then plug it into the car... there is almost no chance of messing it up... but if you are even slightly scared of popping a fuse then disconnect the battery...
