double din hu?
Crutchfield will give you invalid results because the HU space in the Scion is actually a little bit larger than the average double-din HU. So, I would believe most double-dins would fit.
In terms of something that is a lot like the eclipse (meaning Double-Din with a built in screen): the only other one that I know of is the Kenwood-ddx7015, which I am looking into getting myself. Great system and can be had for less than the Eclipse as far as I know.
The eclipse you were looking at is available in 2 or 3 models though, with or without NAV and with or without a hard drive (I believe). I'm not sure how they compare to the kenwood in terms of features.

Enkidu, your sub install is awesome. Did I miss a post on this earlier or have you just not talked about it very much?
That's exactly what I wanted to do with mine.
Tell me about it if you haven't posted on it yet.

Any suggestion on a double din unit that isn't an LCD nav unit? It seems like it's either a choice to go hi-tech at $1000+ or have the single din unit with an empty tray underneath (or a component stack like the cd receiver / digital media controller combo above). Seems like all of the double din units out there are pretty low-tech.
Pioneer has the Pioneer FH-P5000MP w/ mp3, aux input, "future-proof" input, RCA outs, CD changer and XM-ready capability. I haven't seen one in person though, so any comments are welcome from those who have.
What is the depth of the Scion tC opening? I know some shims have to be rigged on the width, but is the cavity unusually shallow? The Pioneer unit is 181mm (around 7") deep including the faceplate.
Of course any other suggestions for decent double din units that have actually been successfully installed in a tC would be greatly appreciated.

Go with 1DIN and a pocket. It will cost less for what you get and you will have room to upgrade later. Down the road, you might want to install an LCD screen like the ones at www.mp3playerstore.com or install an HD based mp3 system or a carputer. The short of it is, don't use 2 dins just to fill them up. You are only shooting yourself in the foot.

You'll want to use both DIN openings if you want to create a stock look and if you happen to hate pop out screens like I do.
I'll probably be custom fitting a 7 inch lilliput VGA touchscreen pretty soon... i'll post a how to on it... Shouldn't be too difficult.
Bushido, as far as the actually depth of the hole that the HU sits in (if that's what you're talking about) It's extremely deep. I don't have any exact measurements on the depth (the stock radio is about 5 inches high and about 8 inches wide), though I can tell you that you probably won't run into any problems fitting anything in there once you remove the stock HU.
Take a look for yourself though... pop off the bottom silver part of the dash and then the top silver part. It's extremely easy to get off and put back on.

i like that kenwood one with the screen built right in. thats basically what i want, but there is one more feature i want that it doesn't have, navigation. i've seen some units that have dvd/mp3/cd/nav but are single din with a fold out screen. fold out screens don't look like they belong to me... can anyone help?
