Default Factory bazooka sub quits working

Well my sub has been acting up lately. It's the Bazooka one offered by Scion. I had the dealer install it after I took delivery of the car. It's worked flawlessly since Feb of last year when I got the car. Now it seems like it cuts out whenever it wants to.

Sometimes when I'm turning the volume up or down when listening to a song with a lot bass, I can hear it cut in and out. At first I thought it was blown, but since I hardly ever blast my music, I didn't think it was likely. I did notice that the green light on the back of the sub isn't on when the sub isn't working, so it makes me think it isn't getting power. The connection on the back of it looks normal though.

I'd take it to the dealer but I think the accessory warranty is only 12 months. Anyone else have any issues with theirs?

The issue might be ( and hopefuly isn't) that the internal amplifier is entering into "clipping" mode or security mode.. I'll ask what can be done about that.. it sounds like exactly what happened to my amp a while ago..

Kevin...when I told you to turn it on, I didn't mean to talk naughty to it.

Thanks, even if that was the issue I have no idea what to do about it. Audio/electrical is not one of my specialties.

I would say it sounds like it's entering a protection mode if it only cuts out when you're listening at a very loud volume and it cuts out at the loudest parts - if that's the case, turn it down. If it isn't, it sounds like a power thing. Make sure the plug is tight on the back of the stereo and no wires are loose. Also you might want to check if the grounding wire is connected right - it's attached to a screw at the back of the back seat... that probably isn't the problem though.

Default warranty on bazooka

It's my understanding that ANY optional accessory offered by Scion AND installed at the dealer is covered under the 3-yr/30,000 mile warranty period.

Go push your dealer for a proper fix or free replacement; if that doesn't work, contact Scion customer service. (I had an issue with dealer adding installation costs for items which shouldn't have had them: TRD muffler, AEM intake, color steering wheel. Scion sent me a $500 check to cover the dealer's shady dealings. They really ARE a great bunch to have in your pocket when hassling with the dealer suits.)

Good luck with your sub problems, but make the dealer do the work, KevinxB . . .

iowagary: It doesn't just cut out at high volume; I had noticed that the sub would seem to cut in and out while I was adjusting the volume up or down. Today, however, it worked normally. This is in sharp contrast to yesterday, when it didn't work at all.

I haven't adjusted or attempted to fix anything though. Since I don't feel like I'm knowledgeable enough to start diagnosing problems in this area, I think I might just take the car by the dealer when I get time like TheShortBus suggested.

That makes sense - it sounds like a wire is loose, but if you bought it from the dealer, it is covered under warranty and they should fix it for you - definitely the way to go. Also, remember that you can get it fixed at any dealership, so if the dealer you take it to doesn't give you the service you expect, you can go somewhere else too.
