for christ sakes last weekend i took off my door panel so i could replace my factory speakers with pioneer 6 1/2 4 ways.

1- i needed brackes on the front speakers to properly install my speakers. otherwise there will be terrible gaps beterrn the speaker and the holes - not to mention drilling 4 custom holes into the door.

2 - after i plugged in the speaker into the door and added the panel back on... somehow the factory speaker sounded louder than the newer one i purchased. must be the casing the speaker is built with - gives it more bass?

so i found that crutchfield sells brackets for the front speakers to hold it in place with original holes. i was too frustrated to even try looking at the back speakers cause the wind knocked over my frint door panel andc scratched the silver pieces (made me go to pep boys to buy some supplies to sand the silver pieces and paint them red).

? :
do i need brackets for the back speakers?
how are they mounted?
can the stock unit handle 260 watt four way speakers?
did the factory speakers sound louder because of the housing the speaker is built onto?

... thanks for the help.

Yes, you do need adapters to install speakers in the doors as well as for the speakers in the rear of the vehicle. You can purchase adapters for all the speakers from Crutchfield, Elemental Designs, etc., or just make your own.

Not really. The factory stereo system is designed with a digital signal processor that is programmed optimally for the factory speakers. This DSP often makes aftermarket speakers sound crappy in comparison. The best solution is to replace the HU. I know others will flame me for saying this, but the factory HU is severely inferior to many aftermarket choices on the market today. Since you've gone to the trouble of replacing your speakers, you may as well make them sound their best with the aftermarket HU of your choice.

Aftermarket speakers will usually sound best when amplified. The factory deck does not put out much power, especially to push aftermarket speakers. If you add a amp to the factory deck, it will sound better, though an aftermarket deck will be even better. The factory speakers do not require that much power to drive them, so they sound fine with the factory deck.

yeah, but if you're just gonna replace them with entry level stuff they'll be fine. the new speakers will have a better sensitivity rating as well, so in all actuality it'll probably be louder.
