factory speaker replacement
has anybody replaced the factory speakers yet? if so was it easy to DIY. and what speakers did you use ? i beleive it is 5 1/2 and 6 1/2 speaker sizes. please help !!!
mike check out the tech section in scionlife I (dims) did it my self and not too bad of a project but you do need a buddy and the proper spacers and the harnesses oh and it's 6.5 speakers front and back I used polk rear and infinity front clean sound and not too expensive . hit me back if you need more info Stan
for christ sakes last weekend i took off my door panel so i could replace my factory speakers with pioneer 6 1/2 4 ways.
1- i needed brackes on the front speakers to properly install my speakers. otherwise there will be terrible gaps beterrn the speaker and the holes - not to mention drilling 4 custom holes into the door.
2 - after i plugged in the speaker into the door and added the panel back on... somehow the factory speaker sounded louder than the newer one i purchased. must be the casing the speaker is built with - gives it more bass?
so i found that crutchfield sells brackets for the front speakers to hold it in place with original holes. i was too frustrated to even try looking at the back speakers cause the wind knocked over my frint door panel andc scratched the silver pieces (made me go to pep boys to buy some supplies to sand the silver pieces and paint them red).
? :
do i need brackets for the back speakers?
how are they mounted?
can the stock unit handle 260 watt four way speakers?
did the factory speakers sound louder because of the housing the speaker is built onto?
... thanks for the help.

Aftermarket speakers will usually sound best when amplified. The factory deck does not put out much power, especially to push aftermarket speakers. If you add a amp to the factory deck, it will sound better, though an aftermarket deck will be even better. The factory speakers do not require that much power to drive them, so they sound fine with the factory deck.
