Default Flip out screen in tC...has anyone done this?

I know since the tC has a double din radio there is not much need for a flip out screen. I just want to know if it would work before I bought it. I know the tC's radio garage door thingy sticks out a little when it is open so I wouldn't want the screen to hit it.

Thanks

We did it here with the Pioneer AVIC-N2 flip out Navigation system. What we ended up doing was placing the single din in the bottom half with a new cubby hole in the top. I removed the flip down scion door, cut it in half and screwed it back in. Now, the lip of the door sticks out about 1/2 inch as opposed to the 2 inch, looks good, just not operational.

We were going to do the double din, but really liked the additional cubby hole for DVD storage and the flip out screen is too friggin cool.

Could you post pics of the AVIC-N2 please? I am thinking of putting one in and would like to see how it looks. Thanks a lot.

Yea flip outs are sweet. I want the door to be functional though. Post some pics. I'd like to see it.

<--- It would go great with my flip out widescreen. hehe.

They really didn't do much to the interior. I was surprised. It looks like they removed the door completely for their flip-out. I've been doing some research and I'll probably go with the pioneer AVIC-D1 with a dvd changer. It will look a lot nicer.

I did have a flip screen, with the door the screen sat straight up and down, it worked fine but closing the door with the screen closed was still impossible. I wound up getting rid of it and got the kenwood double din radio and i am much more happy.

You mean when you close the monitor, the volume controls prevent the unit door from closing completely? How can it not close?

Anyone worried about the monitor blocking the A/C vents?

Sciondad, i'm having trouble conceptualizing that in my head... do you have any pictures of it? With it closed and opened?

Sorry guys, didn't have time for pics last night. I will get them this weekend for you all. It looks good. The flip down is still there, just not functional because I cut it in half and put it back in and secured it. But there is no gap from removing it and when the screen flips out, it adjusts perfectly for viewing.

Oh.. thanks for posting. I was kinda trying to visualize the door closed though.

Looks like pretty much any tC with a flip out like that.

Well, with a flipout, the door will not close and the screen will not go to the best viewing angle up because of the door. Since I really wanted the flip out action and a DVD slot, I removed the door, cut it down in size and put it back in, only a little deeper so the flip up screen goes full up.

Other people I seen completely removed the door, but that left a big gap on top. The door at least "looks" like it still works.
