Saw some thread somewhere asking about alternate FOBs for our cars. Have done a flip key for my Mazda that just involved moving the circuit board from OEM fob to the flip key shell and getting key cut. No such luck on the 04 xB. I started a search/research mission for any option besides separate key and fob. First, our transmitter is FCC ID HYQ12BBX. So I have found several options of combo keys and flip keys that use that FCC ID. Most of them also had a trunk button that would be useless for the xB. There were 5 or 6 styles that were complete and ready to program and cut key. Most of them were $40 each. I preferred a combo key with 3 buttons like we have on our OEM fobs - lock/unlock/panic. It was $20 item so I chanced it really working. Got it and used my OEM key to turn ignition on/off during the programming procedure because new key had not been cut and wasn't gonna chase that if it wouldn't work doors. Went thru procedure with OEM key in ignition and combo key in hand. once I got to the point where you hold both buttons on the remote I did that on the combo key and it worked. Now that the new combo key worked the doors and panic, I went and got key cut for free at hardware store.

But wait, there's more........also came across a 3 button flip key shell, actually made by Denso, that would accept the circuit board from the new combo key that I just programmed successfully. So I ordered that flip key shell and another combo key. Just got the flip key put together and programmed but key for that isn't cut yet. No need to cut the spare combo key. So now it's a fob fiesta. I have 2 OEM working keys and fobs, the new combo key & a flip key. Of course there were a couple of Scion schwag keychain tag and loops thrown into the mix just for more fun..........$40 for 2 combo keys, $10 for flip key shell, $5 for the 2 blue/gray straps and $10 for the black Scion leather tag with blue stitching..........
