Default Funny idea I had last night...

After cleaning up all the computer crap that was lying around my apartment, I was trying to figure out what to do with the 5+ power supplies I have laying around...and I had an idea- I hate having to wire things in my car...so I am going to take a couple of the low wattage PS's I have, and buy a (powerful) AC converter for the car...with a power strip, possibly two, I can hook up one of said-power supplies, and since I have all those plugs unused (no drives!) each plug can handle 2 cold cathodes....which comes out to about 10, maybe more, lights per power supply (assuming each kit comes with 2 lights)...with one mounted somewhere behind the dash, and the other under either seat, I could have a hell of alot of light in my car, very easily...would be a matter of hiding wires and finding places for the power supplies, and possibly fabricating a neat little switch to put somewhere so I wouldnt have to use the converter...the length of the wires would be a little inhibiting, but I think I could learn to deal.

Sound dumb to anyone?

It's just like Jurassic Park... just because you can doesn't mean you should. It would be a heck of a lot easier and cleaner to simply run a dedicated, fused hot wire directly to the battery. You could use splice connectors to tap into the hotwire. You can pick up a chassis ground anywhere.

Yeah if you think about it, basically you're taking your 12V DC, changing it to 120V AC, then back to 12V DC, then powering a buncha stuff.
