Go to Pep Boys and buy some LEDs. They have them that come fully wired with a rubber grommet type thing. You drill a hole, stick the wire through it and the LED pops into place. They come in 3 packs for around $6-7 in a variety of colors. Then wire them up to a switch like a hood switch for an alarm. One that when closed it pushes the pin in, moving the + or - off of the connecting wire, then when you open it, the spring loaded switch pushes out making the connection to turn the lights on. Or you could wire them to your cubby hole light and they would be on even when closed.

Do you follow or was I too complicated?

I have my moments. I have some clear LEDs like what I'm talking about that I was going to use when I had my xB. I was actually going to mount them in the headliner and wire them to the dome light. Mount them in the back, that is, since the xB doesn't have any cargo area lighting. But I got lazy and didn't do the mod, so I got ____ed that I hadn't done the mod yet and decided to get rid of the xB. That'll teach it to not inspire me to mod.

But the glove box mod is fairly simple, I haven't done it, but I may do it when I get back from Nashville and do a write-up for all you kool kats out there.

This is a post from "ScionDad" a while back.

They have them preassembled with a housing. Don't just buy an LED with no resistor as it will turn into a SED (smoke emitting diode)

Remove glove box. Drill a hole for your switch to mount and be pressed when door is shut (I put it near the tire pressure button. minor adjustments can be made for switch depth) and the LED fits nicely under the top (drill a hole for that as well), pointing into the glove box, not at the person opening the glove box. Run LED ground wire to lighter ground wire. Then run LED hot to switch, then from switch to fuse holder, then fuse holder wire to lighter wire positive.

Hint: easier to wire the LED and switch up BEFORE mounting them.

Yea, sorry guys...That NO switch should be a NC switch.... I need to fix that in the post. NC switch will close the connection when the door is open, turning on the lights.

Fixed for future searches. Sorry if anyone spent $3.00 and had to return them to get the others.

Somebody at Toyota had a brain-fart.

No glove-box light but it does have a cubble-hole light that stays on ALL THE TIME (when lights are on).

Genius!
