Default Got some light bulb questions for all you lightbulb guys

Attention Mods if this is not in the right spot then please move it to the appropriate area!

(please correct me if im wrong on anything i write down any questions please see signature)

hey guys ive been wondering for a while about the HIDs and the Xenon headlights. well the question i have is that i know these things need some serious power in order for them to be as bright as they are. well i see on ebay and on other automotive websites that they sell bulbs and what not like at 6000k and whatever else any of these numbers mean. im pretty sure they're like watts on a normal bulb higher number brighter they get. well i worked at saab and have replaced a couple of the Xenon lights and well they have this ginormous generator on the back of them and im only assuming this is where they can get uber amounts of juice. now with all the projector headlights out there now and the halo ones and all that jazz wouldn't it be necessary for me to have one of these in order to make my bulbs HID or Xenon (also i don't know the difference so if someone could elaborate that would be handy). i have been interested in the headlights either halo or not but at least projector cause they just look luxurious and ____. so, question is do i need one of these generator things that i saw cause it wouldn't really make sense to just throw a bulb in there and be like yeah they're HIDs when in reality they aren't they're just 'projected' better with a fancy bulb. now this doesn't have to go into too great of detail but if someone would like to do so then that would be great. i hope any of this isn't confusing but its been bugging me for awhile and this is my first car that im 'modding' and i just wanted to do things right the first time so yeah thanks.

hid ballast run 1/3 the power consumption a normal halogen uses.. and hid bulbs generate 1/2 the heat of a halogen.
the lifespan of hid systems are way longer than regular halogens.

there is no drawback besides cost.

i just put in a H4 drop in kit for the headlights..
i didn't do some crazy projector retro.. so i spent a lil over 300 bucks and im done.. same for the foglights...

people do a variety kinds of instlals.
there are kits that just plug into your stock headlight
harness and then goes to the ballast/ignitor then to bulb.

but i prefer to run a relay so that if my headlights are on,
and i start the car, it won't flicker or anything..
in addition, scions are CONSTANT + and uses a negative for a signal. so if u know how to work with that then its all good.

it takes 1 hour tops!

so i don't need the the generator or anything like that i can just put in the projectors and some bulbs and it'll be ok like the light will be nice and bright. also i've heard about the things that go in the lights that keep you from blinding on coming traffic any thoughts about that?

hids is a system. it usually consists of a ballast(with or without a built in ignitor) that runs off a 12vdc power source and connects to a xenon capsule.
