Default Has anyone changed the needles on the speedo.

I was wondering if anyone had changed to a clear mph needle yet. If so where did you find it and what size/model is it?
Thanks for any help.

There is a reason for the original neeedle to be black - it is because the speedo background is white and it lights up at night. So balck needle is highly visible.

If you replace it with a clear needle you'll have difficult time seeing it. You could probably get away with a colored needle.

I have the ac auto gauge overlay. I've change all my interrior to blue and red and now want a blue or white needle. The black is actually hard to see at night.

Ah, I see (pun intended).

In this case, I don't know what might be a good replacement. And even if you find one, I'm not sure that the light guides under the gauges are set up to fully illuminate the speedo needle. But I'm sure that if you want this bad enough you can find a way (like maybe installing more LEDs).

hmm. I have stock needles and a stock gauge (save the fact that I placed colored film on the back of the gauge face to change the nighttime color)

My needles light up white at night. Maybe there's some variation in the needles they used?

(for ref, it's an early 2006)

Your speedo needle lights up? Or just the fuel gauge and tach needles?

I think he needs the speedo. (Fuel and tach are already illuminated) You might want to check some junk parts from other cars, maybe try to integrate it with our cluster.

I was asking Cherrybox, who seems to be implying that all his needles light up.

My late 2006 has a black (and unlit) speedo needle. Other needles are white/clear and they are illuminated. Sounds like cherryBox is your man!

I've changed the needles on the xb before (I'm trying to look for pics, but I can't find it).

Anyways, I did a full red led conversion, with a new needle painted white. I'll see if I can get some pics (I'd have to contact my customer and get some pics).

Thanks!

Now before everyone starts sending me more messages asking to buy needles, I don't sell the needles (Can't buy them individually), I just happened to have an extra set of gauges from an 04 xa, and the needle is clear (the new xa's are black like the xb's).

So your saying the 04 xa needle is clear? Did it fit on the xb directly or did you have to mod it?

Thanks for the help.

Yes, the 04 xa needle is clear (painted, but clear). The newer xa's have just a black needle like the xb.

now correct if im wrong, which im sure someone will, but i noticed when i had my speedo apart that having a clear speed needle wouldnt help much. From what i saw light is actually emitted from the holes that belong to the tach and gas but no light comes out of the speed needle hole. It may have to rely on "spare" light around it if it works.

^^ You're correct, 2 of the 3 needles on the xb light up. the fuel and tach needles light up, but not the speedo needle.

That's exactly what I said earlier in this thread.
