Default Has anyone mounted their amps in the xB hatch?

I was thinking of flush mounting my amps in the hatch of the xB - under the carpeted panel. Has anyone done this? Got pics? Were the rear hatch struts able to support the weight of the amps? How did you run the wires? Thanks!

if you go this route be very careful to always shut the hatch gently and never take your car to a service place where they will slam it shut, the jarring vibration would be very bad for the amps. Also mounting amps vertically like that can cause more heat than mounting them horizontally.

Im thinking of doing this myself. Running the wires is goign to be the biggest pain in the ****. Have to drill holes and make sure they don't leak.

I took a very serious look at this option and decided agains it for a few reasons. The structure of the hatch is pretty solid behind that carpet. You would be cutting away a lot of support bracketing, making the hatch less stable. You would also need to relocate the hatch lock mechanisms and all of the wiring for that and the lighting wires for the license plate lights. The struts would not really hold well for any large amps or 2 amps. Which would make for hard closes and the struts may not hold the hatch up. So you would have to replace those as well. Heat wouldn't be a terrible issue, I've mounted many amps vertically and never ran into a problem. It's doable, but is quite a task. If you go for it, make sure we see some pics of it. Good luck.
