Default Hatch Dome Light

While trolling the junkyard for dome lights, I came across this one from a ford escort and also found in a mercury tracer. Works perfect for the hatch, two light shine towards the open hatch, one spreads on the ground. It will be painted once I find a good way to either mask, or remove the two small lenses, they are glued in.

What do you guys think?

Very nice. What circuit did you connect it to, and how is it routed? Does it have it's own switch embedded in the door sil? The only other change I might try is to paint it black or charcoal to match the panel it's on, or to find one that's already that color .

Good idea .. but my hatch already sits too low ... just another thing for me to hit my head on. LOL

You could always wire a mercury switch with it .. so this way it comes on when opened.

ya, i said I was painting it when i figure out how to mask it better. It's tapped into the center dome light and the wires are fished through the hatch. I have more of them, I believe they are early 90's tracers and escorts. lots of them in junkyards.

Hell, I'd get 2 of em, one for the hatch and one for the front. Three sets of lights would be great.

why not take the whole roof console out of a tahoe or the like. There's plenty of headroom, then you get storage space too!

WHat a pain in the neck that was... but at least I got it to work. It took me hours of pulling interior panels to realize that the dome light circit ran through the right C pillar (doh!). then I accidently shorted the circuit by noy covering the wire with tape while positioning it. My wife was ____ed. Well, it works now and I'm happy. Maybe in the future I will replace the lamps with LEDs, like one of those color shifting ones...
