i dont really know anything about ice.
heres my problem...
i recently got alpine type-r components and when i blast it, its worse than stock. they bottom out on the bass side. at the same time i got these speakers installed, i also got an eclipse double-din installed. after the person installed it, he said something about getting RCA inputs/outputs and that i'm only getting power from something right now? does anyone know what he's talking about? i didnt ask him because i was in a rush to get somewhere.

you need to amp the type-r components or you will blow them up. get something giving you around 40watts a channel. Alpine has a couple 4ch. amps that will do the job really wel and they start around $200. or you can look into the PXI series they have. it's 150 a channel and will fit under the seat. you can do the matching sub amp stacked on top of it. 7 bones for the PXI 4ch

 

What's happening is your head unit amp isn't powerful enough for the volume level you want to play. So when you turn it up past it's capabilities it clips and you get the sounds you are hearing. As JDMJim said, get an amp. When an amp clips it is feeding direct current (DC) to the speaker and that will burn it up.

That depends on what you want your system to do. If you are worried about the sound stage, you only need a 2 channel at this point to power the front speakers and let the head unit power the rears. If you want surround sound or just be overall louder, then you need a 4 channel to power all the speakers.

Brand is your choice. You'll get thousands of different opinions on which is best.

 

^^ agreed, I'm running Alpine SPS-171a in the front and stock in the back. . . I turned the rear speakers "off", turned the amp in the HU off, and I thought I could get away with it, but I recently turned them back "on" and boy does it sound much better.

 

It's not that the wattage is too little, it's simply the clipped signal that's causing the distortion. if you had gain control on the HU, then you could adjust it so you don't get distorted signal. Definitely get an amp, 2 channel will be fine since you only have components up front (if you have aftermarkets in the rear, you might consider a 4 channel for 2 front components and 2 rear whatevers). I personally only run fronts with stock rears that I can't hear...

looks like you need 75x2 @ 4ohm...
