Default Help with double din HU!

Well my JVC KW-AVX706 double din dvd player finally came in today. I called up my local audio shop to get a price on the install, $180?? What a rip off. I have never installed a HU before but I am considering trying this myself. I already have an aftermarket HU (Single Din Sony Xplode) installed so I figure some of the work is already done for me with the wiring? Do I need to buy any extra equipment? Can anyone walk me through this or at least point me in the right direction please? I spent all my money on my deck and now I cant afford to get it installed .

And yes I did search before posting this, didn't really find what I was looking for. But I did find something about tricking the wiring so you can play your DVD's while driving? What's with this? Of course I want to play DVD's while driving, thats half the reason I bought the thing. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks alot!

well first off, check if your last installer did not throw away the stock brackets that attach the stereo to the chassis under the dash..

if you have these brackets, your job will be incredibly easier.

you will have to cut the wiring off the old stereo where it hooks to the "adaptor" harness (hoping the shop did not hack it to begin with)

take pix if you can man.. i'd be glad to walk you through it.

as far as getting around the dvd thingy well... i guess i'd have to understand better what wires (how many) control this feature coming out of the deck..

You mean these brackets? He left them on my stock HU it looks like

Here is what appears to be the A/V in / out wires and such. There is also a bunch of other wiring (not pictured) including a really long purple one for my reverse gear signal, and a green one that says parking break on it (I'm guessing it has something to do with that one?)

ok find out if the parking brake wire requires a - or + signal.. it should say in the installation directions.

unless you are hooking up a rearview camera you won't need your purple wire.

those brackets should def bolt to the stock deck. i'm guessing you do not have an aftermarket amp? if not, then just match the colors on the JVC wires to the ones on the old sony wires under the dash. and pray to god that the guy didn't hack your stock harness!!!

Cant find anything in here about a + or a - signal to the parking brake, it just says "crimp the parking brake wire (light green) to the metallic body or chasis of the car" and it shows this diagram with the parking brake switch and such. And I do have wires all ran for my amp to the sony deck as well, but nothing hooked up at the other end...I blew my JL 15" a couple months ago. Thanks for all the help, I will probably take a shot at this tomarrow afternoon now.

hmm weird. i suggest just checking if the dvd player works with and without the parking brake wire grounded. . might as well hook up the amp wires while you're there tho..

If you hook the park brake wire to the park brake switch that feeds the warning light (as instructed) the player will not play dvds unless the parking brake is on. If you hook it to ground instead the dvd player will operate whenever you want , in park, or driving down the road. I dont advise watching Lord of the Rings while driving the interstate however.

Ok so I am in the middle of wiring everything up as we speak. I have run into a couple problems : 1) The orange dimmer illumination wire, I have only one comming out of the JVC harness, but two (positive and negative) comming out of the car harness to hook it up too. 2) The blue remote out for the amp and the blue power antenna wire were spliced together on my Xplode harness, but I have two seperate wires for them on the JVC one, should they be spliced together still or not? 3) The brown "tel muting" wire, I dont even know what this is, and I dont see any other wires on the cars harness that it seems to match up to, what do I splice this to? Other then that I did notice the single sub output that the guy above me mentioned, I think I am just going to use my rear speaker (left and right) outs to solve that problem, as that how it was hooked up on my Xplode deck. Or is there a better way to go about that? Thanks for all the help everyone.

now here is my story:

i spent the evening 2 nights ago hooking up the harnesses and doing the slpicing and yeaterday doing the install. As soon as i got her set in place and pust the dash back together i discovered a teeny tiny problem....MY UNIT IS TOTALLY DEFECTIVE!! The slot loading mechanism is totally f@#&ed. In inner pat that pulls the disc in is actuall off-centered so when its tryin to load a disc it jams instantly. I didnt feel like taking it apart to fix it( voided warranty ) so i have to return it. As of right now its gonna take 2 week to the replacement. i need to ship mine back them wait for them to ship the new one. untill then im rockin a huge hole in my dash and no climate control

use the negative dimmer wire
only use the amp wire, not the power ant wire
the brown wire is for a handsfree kit if you so desire
take a pic of the back of the deck if you can..

What about the orange dimmer wire? I have a positive and negative on the cars harness and just one wire on the decks harness.

does the deck say the dimmer wire is positive or negative?

the negative side of the circuit has the "dimmer" circuit, whereas the positive side is a straight 12V

if my memory serves me, it's the negative wire. you can start with the neg wire without damaging the deck. if it does not perform, swap to the positive wire.
