Default Help me choose between these MP3 CD Receivers

I'm looking between 3 MP3 CD Receivers. Now I know that one of them is an Alpine deck, but I'm looking for more in-depth review comparisons. The black Sony looks great, although the button's more on the smaller size (gotta see it in person).

Here are the contenders. Please rate them (1st,2nd,3rd). Prices are Crutchfield's and yes, they do play a part in deciding. And if you are going to say yay or nay, please state why, preferably with personal experience with these SPECIFIC models:

Sony CDX-F5710

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-FdUdnEb...o&i=158CDXF571

Sony CDX-F7715X

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-FdUdnEb...fo&i=158F7715X

Alpine CDA-7833

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-FdUdnEb...o&i=500CDA9833

Here's the Crutchfield Comparison between the three:

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-FdUdnEb...5X=on&x=18&y=4

Question:

Other than styling, is the CDX-F7715X that much better than the CDX-F5710.

Alpine being the most expensive, can the Sonys quality come close enough to justify getting them and saving some money??

I bought a sony, (neither orf those, but a mp3 player sony) and am not at all happy with it. The stock unit sounded many times better, IMO.

I've never heard of Sony getting good reviews for headunits. I'd go with the Alpine.

the poll doesn't have alpine so i didn't vote.. i would go with the alpine.. plus the 9833 has the v-drive amp section built in (if you were going to use the headunit to drive the speakers).. v-drive is something like 26watts X4 rms.. have to wire it up as an amp (10 gauge wiring, etc).. too much current flow for the stock wiring.. but i think it's a great unit!

I've got one of alpine's models (9831) and it's sweet. Go with the alpine!

go alpine. i've owned a few of them (cda-9831 now) and they've never let me down. the only negative on the 9833 you have listed is that you have to wire it directly to your battery

damn, i played around with the alpine and sonys, freaking alpine is sooo complicated. can't figure it out....The black sony is quite nice, but buttons are small. The silver one is actually quite good, especially for its price

I'm just wondering if that silver Sony is worth the price to swap with the stock head unit

but once you do figure how to use it you will never go back to anything else. I used to be a pioneer guy until I got my alpine cda-7875(first blue led headunits by alpine) then the cda 9815 in my crx. than got the cva-1004 for my xb but switched back to pioneer avic-n1 for the nav.(will switch back to alpine in a heartbeat if they do a double din) and now I just got the alpine cda-9835 for my tC....love that biolight display on them.

here's a pic...

also one of the big plus' of an alpine is their MX(media expander) its like a loud button but better, time correction, iPod/XM/Sirius add-ons and iPersonalize.

check out their website at www.alpine1.com

hope this helps,

Yeah I heard about that "Time Correction" from a friend of mine who has the Alpine IVA-D300 in his truck. Time correction is cool as hell when setup right!! BTW CRxB what is that other single slot under you headuint for?

Another good Alpine is the one that has the XM tuner already built in. CRxB may have mentioned it but I forgot the model number. All you do is add an antenna to it and it's ready to go. Only thing is it doesn't play MP3's I don't think. Also most of the 2004 Alpine haedunits are "Sat" ready, meaning you can add Sirus or XM to it for which ever you prefer. Another plus about owning an Alpine is that you can add the KCA-420i - Alpine iPod Control Interface too. If you own or happen to buy an iPod.

As a good rule of thumb in car audio: Don't buy Sony.

Go with the Alpine or something else.

Ok listen... I work for Best Buy in the Car Audio section. You dont want any sony car audio product. They make good dvd, and tv's but they really need to stay out of the car audio business. We have sony's go bad really easily... You want alpine...Trust me
