Default Help me identify what I found (56k accepted)

Okay, so I lost my Leatherman Wave (____es me off) and I thought it might be somewhere in the 'bizzy. While rooting through the storage area and I found a gold earing and these wires. What do I have hear? Am I ready for an amp and sub? Looks like i have two sets of speaker wires, although why they look different makes no sense. At least one of the brown cables is hot (big sparks tipped me off) and I have no idea what the little blue one does.
Help.

litle blue one would be remote wire(turns the amp on/off when the stereo is on/off). so yes it appears that you are wired for subs.

the one in middle(blue) are for the amplifier, the right are power cable for power + and - ground. the left i think is for video input, i think those wire are ebay.

I'm just curious ........how can anyone "know" what these wires are for .....unless they are the ones that wired the car in the first place .................But hey believe what you want

They are most likely 2 sets of audio inputs from the headunit to an amp. Until you check the other end you will not know for sure where they go. The blue wire is likely either a positive feed for an amp of perhaps an amp turn on lead. Again you must find out precisely where the other end goes to be sure.

You can not really tell for sure. All we can be positive of is that there are the ends of 2 rca cables and some badly spliced wire in the photo.

check if there is a brown wire with a fuse coming off your battery. The fuse might've blown from the 'big sparks'. Don't replace the fuse if it's blown or remove it if it's not, if you're just going to leave the wires back there though.

The other brown wire should be attached to your body somewhere (stupid to use the same color for power and ground).

There isn't any speaker wire there? The only reason I can see a reason for not having any speaker wire would be if it was just for subs in the trunk, but then I don't know why there would be two sets of RCA's if that were the case.

If it was me, I would yank them out and start over anyway. I never, ever trust anybody elses's work. Plus the cables and other junk looks rode hard and put away wet. Besides you have to take the car apart anyway to find out what goes where, so why not start over?

I don't like the looks of the cable. The power and ground cables look somewhat discolored which does happen to copper over time if it is exposed to the elements. Poor quality wire will yield more resistance, ultimately cutting down on the output of whatever amplifier is connected to it. This could be the LEAST of your problems if you use someone else's wiring job and crappy quality wire. You'd be much better off pulling it and starting fresh. The blue RCAs look like they could be reusable, but I would completely pull them and give them a thorough inspection before you actually give them a shot. After all, if they are nicked or cut somewhere down the line, you'll be pulling them anyway. ...just my $.02. I've been bitten in the @$$ by this sort of problem before. Chasing problems is more time-consuming and less fun than just doing the job right the first time.

Its been said here plenty of times .. dont trust what you have found to work. Re-wire, its not that hard.

< not to mention the one cable is spliced and poorly taped >

yep start over, you can use those wires later for other things, like tieing stuff up, or I've done with my old amp wires, I used them for jumper wires from my battery to a power supply I plug in at shows
