HELP!!!! With Mounting LCD for Carputer
If Im not mistaken that would be very illegal, it would be cool but im sure if you ever got pulled over the cop would have a hard time not giving you a ticket for it. Now if I was going to do it I would use the type of mounting system most modern Navigaton systems use with the whole suction cup thing, that way it would be easy to remove in case Johnny Law decided to pull me over. Then all you have to do is run the wiring under the headliner so you don't have to see all the wires.
What is the easiest way to mount the monitor in the region of the rearview mirror, or a suggestion of where i can put the monitor other than the HU area. Replies and PICS would be greatly appreciated THANKS!
It wouldn't be too difficult to modify the stand that comes with most Liliput or Xenarc touchscreens to have it mount using the rear-view mirror mounting holes and hardware.
I wouldn't be too concerned about the police unless you are planning on using a large LCD. Window-mounted NAVs are not illegal. Since there is little difference, this shouldn't be a problem unless you are playing movies while driving.
If you are trying to make it look slick without the bracket showing, then you are probably going to need some fiberglass work to cover it up.

you can its just you have to worry about how much you brace it. I have a carputer running a intel mac mini. I liked the idea of that versus the rear view mirror, but driving the way i do and actually having that up there for thieves to take was out of the question. I just did my stuff where the HU was and had it fiberglassed in. its a 700TSV xenarc.
Mine fit perfectly in the stock stereo location as well.
Everything is easily accessible via the touchscreen interface, including music, movies, navigation, rear-view camera, vehicle diagnostics, internet access, etc..

what screen setup are you running? Lilliput?
It's a Lilliput 619GL-70NP touchscreen.
I didn't 'glass it in because it has been a test bed for my prototype system. The majority of the components for the system are actually in a 'glass/aluminum case that sits behind the Lilliput screen inside the dash. The mount is just a simple angle-iron bracket with a small fiberglass outline and backboard, tucked and wrapped in vinyl. This way, I can take it in and out at my leisure with minimal trouble.
Also, having the screen set back into the dash dramatically cuts down on glare. I glassed a screen flush in the console on my old IASCA Camaro and glare was a B****! If I were to catch the sun at the right angle, the screen was almost illegible. Even with the windows tinted dark as heck, there was still a glare at certain angles of sunlight.
Whenever I do complete the project to the point that I'm sure I'll be leaving the setup alone for a while (which, at the current rate, may never happen since it seems I'm messing with something almost every weekend!
Friggin' POS Via boards!), I will most likely glass the screen in, but even then, the screen will be recessed in rather than flush.

I had a few requirements for my carpc setup.
-I wanted to keep the stock radio in it's stock place
-I wanted the screen to be easily removable
-I wanted the screen to be very easy to reach see and use while driving
So there was only one place to put it.

It's a 7" and none of it is blocked by the wheel

I've had it like this for a while now and it's great. Aside from missing the 'clean' look of fiberglassed setups this suits me perfectly.
