HELP? xb05 interior molding removal
hey ok as most of you know the upper half of the interior plastic moldings in the 1st gens are light in color i want mine black since im blacking out everything including the head liner, i called costum interior shops but they just want to order me new moldings i say screw that ive already spent a bundle on electronics, rims, and new leather interior, i figure since these 6 pieces never really get touched i could maybe just spray paint them in a satin finish with a quality spray paint like the krylon Fusion what do you guys think and how the hell do i get them off and back on without scratching them up ecspecially the seatbelt ones in the middle????

Painting the pillars is cake! Scuff with some scotchbright, clean well with alcohol, then spray a bunch of super light coats with the Krylon Fusion. I did mine that way over 3 years ago and still not a scratch or anything, and it's my DD. And they just pull off. cept for the B pillars (center with seatbelts), you need to pop the cap on the belt and pull out the bolt first.
This thread shows how to gut your xB, good luck with painting the pillars

There is writeups on the headliner, it's not too bad. Unless you have a sunroof! Then it sucks! Don't be afraid to tackle it though, help is only a key stroke away!

Check this out. Some remove the old fabric, but I know alot of guys (including me) that didn't.

Hey i'm doing the same thing with my xb, and i've found a few threads about removal/installation of headliners/interior trim but they are all hard to find you really have to dig. I've been lucky its easier to search with Google. You should find a few with pics. I'm surprised there isn't a Sticky with this already. I'm going to do my headliner today if i can find the PDF file that shows the factory way for removal of the pieces ( i'm not going to risk breaking anything & buying it ) again. IF you find one thread you want to use. PRINT IT OUT> thats what i'm doing Right now. GOOD LUCK! :D itll look awesome when you're done && ALWAYS CLEAR what you paint!!
The headliner is super easy. Take off the front seatbelt side mount, rear seatbelt side mount, upper plastics, mirror, dome light and the four grab handles and it pulls right out. There is nothing else holding it in.
If you're covering it, use the lighest fabric you can find, and roll-on contact cement. The spray doesn't coat even and can leak through. let the rolled on cement set and get tacky before attaching the headliner, then work from the middle out like doing a pie crust. let dry and done.
