Hifonics BXi1606D BRUTUS 1600 Watt Monoblock Amplifier
Two weeks ago I purchased the amp as a replacement for the ED I ruined. It was $249 on Ebay plus shipping. I bought a Zeus from the same person so they gave me a discount so shipping probably was about $20.
I did a lot of looking around before I decided to go with these amps. I saw a lot of good comments and a lot of bad comments. I guess that is true for most things.
The amp is heavy and had a very solid heat sink. The body(heat sink) of the amp is black with the BRUTUS the rated power stamped in. HIFONICS is done in semitranslucent plastic that is illuminated by blue LEDs. The end caps are chrome and hide 4 blue LEDs on each side the shine light down 4 grooves in the body.
On the ends all lf the connections are pretty much standard hex type gold-plated bla bla bla. Power conncetions are 4 ga. and speaker connections are 10 ga. I don't like the adjustment heads because they are shallow and wide. I'm used to the deep and narrow kind that you can use a small screwdriver in and tweak.
I read many comments that Hifonics amps are overrated as far as power. That's part of the reason I picked the 1600 watt version over the 1200 watt BXi1206D. Anyway, it pushes the pair of ED 13.OV2s just as well as the ED it replaced.
As far as sound, I'm very happy with it. I think I have a pretty good ear and I can't tell much of a difference, from memory, between the sound of the Hifonics and the ED. My Pioneer head unit is controlling the crossovers point at 63 Hz down and it sounds just great to me. It's clean, low and powerful.
If you are looking for a lot of power on a budget and still want good sound, then this is probably your best bet. At this time I have absolutely no regrets buying it.
