has anyone tried the HIR bulbs on their tc? either in their oem fogs, headlights or high beams? if so, do you have any comparison pics? i found these on ebay and just curious if it really makes a difference: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWA%3AIT

There was some discussion about this before. Someone has done it. There is somewhere you can order them - they come stock on the Dodge Viper and evidentally will fit but you have to file down a plastic tab or something. The place that was selling them before was pretty serious about them being only for the Viper, so you had to pretend that's what you were using them for. I never saw any comparison pics.

right, but this guy selling them on ebay has them pre-trimmed and you can use them on any car that uses a 9005/9006 bulb. and i know polarg sells HIR bulbs too, just not sure the quality. the guy at that ebay link is selling the toshiba bulbs which is the only manufacturer making them anymore.

Wow... those actually look pretty good. I wonder if the light gain is that noticeable - I would like to have a bit more light and the color temperature sounds good too - I'm not going to pay a grand for HID, but for $68, you could have something pretty nice. The bulbs don't look that new and shiny, but maybe he's just bad at taking pictures.

I installed HIR bulbs on my 99 Eclipse GST b4. They are slightly brighter than standard 9006 bulbs. However, compared to a 9005 bulb(if you make them fit into your 9006 housing) i couldn't really tell the difference. Compare these to 80-100watt NON-tinted bulbs they are actually slightly dimmer! TRUST ME! BEEN THERE DONE THAT! Not worth it, REALLY HID is the way to go!

yeah, it seemed pretty good to me too, just curious if anyone has done this themselves and if it's a noticeable and worthy difference. and i found somewhere that i can purchase the polargs for the same price and they don't need to be trimmed as they are supposedly manufactured 9005/9006 HIR's, but i'm just not sure if they are imitation HIR's or what.

I put them in my projectors for the lows (9006)

I like them, the light is a bluish white. From about 50 feet away, when I looked at my car with the lights on, they looked like hid's.
I got a set for $20 at Checker auto.

I recently purchased 2 hir bulbs directly from Candlepower and am happy with the results. I compared them to my friends Evo and they are almost as bright as his hids serisouly. I think Mitsu uses a higher temp bulb on their hids though. The HIR are very bright for what they are. If you are looking to see better at night get them. If you are looking to be like everyone else an want the hid look save you money and buy something else. The HIR are a little more white than the stock bulbs.

I don't care about the HID look. I certainly don't want to blow $300 on some crappy HID kit from Ebay. Since I can't afford proper HID retrofit for nice projectors, I'm not going to misuse HID bulbs in my reflector housings. I was interested in these because they're:

A) Cheap
B) Designed for reflector housings
C) Legal
D) brighter than stock

If it's all those things, I'm still interested - Its just too bad this guy doesn't have a picture of our stock bulb vs. the HIR bulb up against a garage door or something.

That's a good link. If you read through it, however, you'll notice that the guy mentions that the bulbs need to be used with discretion in a housing that doesn't have a good vertical cutoff - anyone want to comment on the tC's beam pattern? I think I might get these things and I think that a cop would have a hard time ticketing you for them as they're obviously not HID and as such wouldn't really arouse suspicions, but I don't want to be an ___ either and it would be nice if these didn't end up blinding people.

Actually you want the light housing to have a good cut off per the guy at Candlepower. He said there is about upto a 70% increase in light and if you do not have a good cut off you can blind oncoming traffic. The Tc cutoff seems to work well and keeps the light out of other peoples eyes.

That's cool... so is anyone gonna get these? I'm seriously contemplating it, and after driving a card with HID, I know how much nicer it is to see more, but it's still like $70... it's not a trivial amount of money...
