My worry is that in the future the dash will start to crack. Has anyone had this problem? I wonder if buying a carpet cover for it would be a good idea. Any input would be great.

 

As long as you periodically clean it it should do fine. I've never had a dash crak on me but I've always used armoral or some type of cleaner/protectant on my interior. I also used a shade in my windows whenever I parked for a while in the sun. Not a big fan of the carpeted dash look. the dash will eventually fade (over years) wherever the carpet isn't covering. so if you ever take it off, you will have a two toned dash.
