From what ive heard, you've gotta remove the whole steering wheel, by taking off those two allan screws on the back of the steering wheel, ive never gotten around to it because im too afraid to. lol...

I have audio controls on my wheel so maybe i cant cet those off for painting but i would seriously appreciate it if you could help me with the ****.

thanks
Thanks for the compliments! Everything is pretty easy take off...For the auto shift ring you have to remove the center console piece...In the rear cup holder there is a screw that you remove first...Now simply lift the center console up far enough so that you can see under the console...You will see plastic clips holding the auto trim ring on...Carefully pry the tabs until the the auto trim ring lifts off...It has been awhile since I di mine but I think there are (4) plastic tabs...I broke one so be careful when prying them...

As for the steering wheel pieces, you have to remove the air bag portion from the steering wheel...These pieces DO NOT unsnap so do not try...Here are the instruction:

Step #1: Disconnect the battery (most important step, I disconnected both + and -)
Step #2: Loosen the two torx srews on the steering wheel. They do not need to be
completely removed. Lift airbag away but remember it is connected by wires
still. Pull it far enough out so that you can get to the wires
Step #3: Unplug the wire that goes from the air bag unit into the steering column
Step #4: Next you will see two plugs that plug into the back of the air bag. One is
Black and the other is Orange. Lift up the yellow tab/clip looking thing on
the Black one. It will only lift about an 1/8 of an inch. Now pull the Black
plug off of the air bag. Do the same for the Orange clip. You should be
done and the air bag is now in your hand
Step #5: Tape the loose wires with electrical type to keep them from touching
(not sure anything will happen if they touch but I taped mine to be safe)
Step #6: Reconnect the battery
Step #7: Your air bag light will remain on, no big deal. It will go off when you
reinstall the air bag. If your maintenance light or check engine light
comes on, reset it by making sure your odometer is set to show your
vehicle mileage, not your trip mileage. Turn off car. Push in and hold
your odometer reset button and turn the key to on position. Hold it for
approx 5 seconds, your odometer will return to your vehicle mileage and
the light should be out
Step #8: Find your nearest painter.
Step #9: To reinstall, follow these steps in reverse order. Good luck

hope that helps

I've never done this nor even tried but this is what it says in the repair manual. Doesn't look you need to remove the entire steering wheel.

Hey lowandslow2, what kind of flip-out dvd player is that? looks nice.

here's how the steering wheel pieces come off (note that this is for an early 06 without the stereo controls) - it's buried in my first post though...
