THIS IS A GREAT THREAD! I was just able to read this and then take my door panels off with confidence. Although.... I do need a new "expanding fastener of doom." Also can someone recomend decent 6 1/2" for the front? I have Alpine S2 I think, and it's blown.

So I need new speakers but I also need to know if there is any special instructions for install because I have a separate app just for the component speakers. I am specifically looking to buy them from crutchfield because I have gift card

\what i heard/ = roofing flashing is worth using as vibration dampener besides that expensive stuff. i have noticed that stock vibration (say on a honda) dampening looks exactly like Vycor minus the labeling. any opinions on this? its like $16 for a Vycor 4" x 75' roll. they also have aluminum gilded adhesive rolls for a little bit more.

Upside:
-Cheap
-easy to find
-Works ok

Downside:
-Smells like tar, and can make your car smell of tar on hot days
-doesn't flex or curve as well as the butyl dampener
-doesn't stick as well as butyl dampener
-can dry out and get stiff/brittle
-can stain carpet/headliner/etc that touches the tar part of it
-doesn't dampen as well as butyl dampener

Make your decision based on your priorities. I went with Second Skin Damplifier because long-term functionality and quality was more important than cheap price. But I'm also planning to keep my xB as long as possible, so every mod is done with an eye to how it will hold up 10 years down the line.

In that case I can't help. I've never encountered the butyl flashing and I haven't read anything about it.

Default Butyl Rubber Flashing install

HEyyyy. i guess ill try installing butyl rubber roofing flashing as a vibration dampener in my box for you guys. ill hit yall back once i start to put it down and after i have finished. give me about... id say maybe a month before i start (im getting ready for the rest of my life here in the south). i have bought all my materials already (grace vaycor butyl rubber flashing). i believe i have enough for the whole car including the roof and behind the dash. i have tried to mold a few bits of it around a few different shapes (a five liter sangria bottle handle and base + an old printer) and it crops up quite nicely without a lot of folds and ripples (nothing a little pressure wont fix). just for kicks i dropped the sangria bottle from the attic entrance hole and it didnt break when it hit the carpet under which there is just concrete. ill keep the two items outside in the elements for a week or so and ill tell how they hold up. right now its raining.
-i hope this idea will help yall save some money, that is if i am successful...

Well it's been this long and I haven't been able to do it. I figured by now I wouldn't have to let my dad use the car so often. Bleh... Just picture a 64 year old GA boy ridin around the south... Anyways I'll try it in the hatch and see how it goes. That shouldn't take long

because the info is here, not much explaining needed...

people don't need to answer questions... because there are none that need to be asked...

that's kinda a good thing i suppose.. the forum might look dead... but smart, intelligent people are still researching and looking through the informative threads..

they get all the knowledge they need without having to ask anything else??
or am i being too idealistic? i don't think we have that many smart people on this forum that uses the search enough.. don't you agree?

Anyone know of any other threads with rear seat removal instructions. This one doesn't make sense without the pictures.
