Default HU Error 4 code - any tips?

Can you help me?

When asking my HU to change discs today it froze and gave me an "Error 4" code. Now, nothing! Won't eject, load, or play CDs - just radio.

Anybody have experience on clearing this code? My xB is still under warranty, so I don't want to mess with it mechanically and give the dealer an excuse to avoid service. Is there a code you just punch in to reset the HU?

Near as I can figure, the discs jammed while changing.

These are all discs I've burned. Please don't tell me not to play them. I just want to fix the problem, not discuss what I shouldn't have done. That sort of discussion could go on all night. There's plenty in life I shouldn't have done, you know?

Anyway, I've seen lots of posts of this happening, but never a post of a solution. Searching on the whacky search engine here didn't bring up any relavent posts. I think I'm okay on comupters, but this site's search feature baffles me!

Thanks for your help!

hey

this is a common error with our pioneer HU's. the only way i know to correct the Error 3 and 4 codes is to turn off the car and then restart the car.
you can take the car to the dealership and show them what happens. they should replace it under warranty.

Default HU Error 4

Definately take it to the dealer. Had to have mine replaced because it kept getting worse and worse about not ejecting cd's. CD's would also be very warm when I could finally get them out. Got it replaced with no problem.

dealership trip is your best bet... it seems to be a common issue and they've been replaced most of the time.

Thanks, all. I've tried everything I can think of but nothing helped. I hope this isn't a problem with all HU. I'm going for a replacement. It's still under 22k, so I'm good. If you're over the warantee milage, no doubt your SOL.

Donnie! My man, I like the leds and carbon fiber on your RS 1.0. What's the info on the carbon fiber? Inserts, decals, replacements? Hard to do? Where'd you get it??

I got the carbon fiber dash kit at edashkit.com....It has sticky on the back and you clean the surface and stick it on.

Very easy to put on, took about an hour I got the full kit....just make sure when you use the wipes not to clean any bigger than the area you want to stick to cause I touched an area on the light grey part of the center console and it changed to a white color ....I used some armorall wipes and it went back to almost the same color but I know it is there and it bugs me.

Yeah. Error code 4 is the unit sensing too much current draw and shutting down so it doesn't cook something inside. It auto reset's when powered down and allowed time to reset. If something is still jammed, of course, it will pop another error 4 at you.

A trip to the dealership for a warranty replacement is probably in order - they will probably have to open the old one's case to retreive your CDs.

As to using burned CDs in the changer, that's not really a problem UNLESS YOU HAVE ANY STICK-ON LABELS ON THEM. Labels are a no-no.

Good luck!

Tomas
