Default I'm thinking about buying a standalone lcd screen.

The all in one systems (like touch screens) look so ugly and gimmicked. I'm thinking about buying a standalone screen like this one:

ftp://extra.abtelectronics.com/BDP_I...ig_tmem710.jpg

I was thinking about rigging it in front of the steering wheel (or elsewhere) and using the interface to route into a PC underneath the passenger seat. This way I could have DVD, navi, TV, MAME, whatever I wanted bundled into one system.

Now this presents some problems, such as "How am I going to get the audio into the head unit?" or "What's the best place to put the screen?" or "Can I fabricate a mount for the screen or do they sell them anywhere?" or "Why are you such a rampant douche?"

Anyone got any ideas?

after some research, this sounds like a bad idea, and that people spend the majority of their time fighting noise.

id say to search for the carputer setups that people have done (its been done before) and you can get a lilliput standalone screen on ebay for pretty cheap

as for in front of the steering wheel, think of the airbag - and viewing angle

brackets? thats almost always DIY (they make simple stand up base brackets, they usually come w/the screen)

sound? get a headunit that takes audio inputs

switching? there are multiple types of a/v switches to switch up to a dvd/game sys/rear cam/comp/tv tuner/and on...

put the screen w/in arms reach, but keep in mind cops. if that is an issue in your area (if a cop so much as catches a glimpse of a front area screen, ur garunteed a cavity search)
