Default Interior Light Wiring Help!!!

I'm gonna install a map light in front, by the visors and I was wondering if anyone might have a wiring diagram for the rear passenger light? I'll be running all of the wires from the map light to it. I really need to know how to wire my 3-wire map light, CORRECTLY! Thanks for any help you can give... :D

There are two wires that go to the domelight. The two wires are switched and constant. The ground is from the roof or mounting points. I'm going to assume the map light you have utilizes the same wiring format. Check around the tech section for the rear domelight and you should find the exact wiring information you need.

Also, do any of you guys know what gives the map light that "fade to black" when the door closes?

No, no, no.

*ONE* wire brings power to the dome light, one wire brings a switched/variable ground to it from the control unit, and the THIRD is a solid ground.

We've already had one xB owner in here smoke the electronics that control the dome light (and it's dimming) when the doors open, so don't just 'assume' it is wired up like a '55 Chevy...

Here's a schematic...

Get the Scion Repair Manuals - they are expensive, but worth their weight in gold if they keep you from turning your car to rolling trash...

(The "Door Lock Control Relay" is an euphemistically named electronic module that controls doorlocks, some alarm functions, interior light, etc. I'm sure it is expensive. It is what puts out a 'variable ground' to 'dim' the light to 'off' when the door is closed or car is started, etc. The power to the dome light is always there (through a fuse) - it is the ground to the dome light that turns it on and off, and dims it. Read the schematic, and if you do NOT understand it, read it again until you do. )

I have had my maplights wired up for about 2 months with no problems. I connected into the L-Y wire very close to the current dome light, installed an inline fuse, and ran wire to front for map lights. And then grounded map light close to the map light. It is not switched with the doors. Normally map lights are turned on for driver or passenger when they need light. While I was doing that I also connected a rear dome light and tied it into the hatch door switch. No power is going through the xB controls, so they operate as they are supposed to, but the middle dome light and the rear dome light come on when the hatch is opened. When the hatch is closed, the rear dome light goes off instantly, and the center one acts as always and fades to black after a while. If a schematic would help I can scan the schematic I drew of the system so I wouldn't forget how I wired it.

Great work Tomas! That will come in really handy if I ever get around to a project I have planned.

I added a universal dome light up front and ran powere to it. I can turn it on whenever I want. Had to put a smaller bulb in it cause it was too bright. They can be foung at Auto Zone for like 6 bucks.

Default Same Diagram

Does anyone know if this same wiring applies to the 2006 XA?
The dome light does not "dim" if that makes a difference.

Thanks
