iPod Jack Question... (already did a search)
I would like to know if toyota prewires the xB's Ipod Jack, just leaves out the iPod Jack and leaves the wiring disconnected from the head unit.
There are some wires underneath the center console that run next to the AUX jack that look like they run up toward the head unit, and they stop, I think, under the center kickpanel where the AC ducts run to the back floor.
ARE these the iPod Wires?
Thanks!@@!

I ordered the ipod unit aftermarket and installed it, and had the same question. The wiring is all there - it's just taped down in the console and behind the head unit. It was an easy, ten minute job; you wouldn't have any trouble with it if that's what you're up to.
I found the unit on ebay and paid $290 shipping included. I think I got lucky - as we have established on SL they cost around $500 from the dealer (because you're not getting credit for the stock unit). I'd keep my eyes open on ebay.
And yes, this is the Scion Pioneer head unit that is an option on 2006 xAs. It is a line level (not headphone-level) connection with a custom cord...it locks the controls on the ipod itself and allows for navigation via the head unit controls. There are complaints about the loss of ipod function, but the (great) sound quality outweighs the clunky controls. song info, artist and album info can appear on the disply depending on how you configure it. The display does not scroll automatically, but shows up to 16 characters at a time.
I agree that losing the click-wheel is regrettable, but I made a bunch of playlists and can find most of what I want quickly. I use shuffle a lot anyway.

so you cant just buy the connectors for the iPod and use it on the base model sterio? you have to buy the whole new head unit?
Is the upgraded head unit 6 disc capable as well? or just 1 disc?

A car configured with the base head unit will not have an iPod jack plainly visible in the center console. You can't just buy the ipod cord from a dealer and hook it up without the head unit...by the way, a new ipod cord costs like $100 from the dealer (so I've read here).
You can use the ipod on the base stereo, but you have to use the AUX jack to do it. You'd need a male-to-male headphone cord and you just plug it into the headphone jack of your ipod. There is no control, display, or charging capability with this option and the sound is not nearly as good as the upgraded unit.
Also, if you use the 12V socket to charge the ipod while it plays through the AUX port you will likely experience a ground loop problem that will result in a hissing that gets louder with the volume. I couldn't tolerate the crap quality of the sound so bit the bullet and upgraded.
the upgraded unit is just one disc. I also thought it was a 6-disc but was mistaken.

Yeah my new 06/xA has the iPod radio. It's one disc only. It is MP3/WMA compatible tho so if you load a CD up with MP3's (you can fit about 10 discs worth) you can play it in there. I LOVE that!

My question is:
Is it possible to buy the "port" or "jack" that the dealer installs, and use the base head unit with the hidden wiring under the console made to connect the iPod port to the head unit, OR do you have to upgrade the head unit too?
Basically, is the base head unit capable of running the iPod just like the upgraded head unit?
sorry for the overexplanation.
Nope. You can't just buy the jack. When you install the upgraded HU you also need to dig out the other end of the iPod interface jack and plug it into the back of the new HU. The stock HU has a blank where the upgraded HU has the ipod socket.
