Default kicker amp help needed

Posted: 22 June 2005 at 1:00am | IP Logged

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am running a Kicker KX650.4 amp. Its 4/3/2 channel and I am running it as 2 channel. I have one sub running to the amp1 channel and one sub running to the amp2 channel. I am using the high level signal inputs with the rca dummy plugs in the amp 2 input (per the instruction manual). I am using both sets of high level inputs (1 for amp1 and 1 for amp2). The subs I am using are 12" kicker L5's dual 4ohm coils. When I turn the system on, there is almost No sound coming from the subwoofers. The indicator lights are green, so there shouldnt be a problem. What could the problem be? I wired the coils like the instructions said (series). I checked the ground and it was .09 ohm. The main power coming into the amp was 12.6 volts. The remote turn on read 12.6 volts also. I am using 4 gauge wiring for the power and ground and 16 gauge for the remote wire. The speaker wire is 12 gauge.

There is almost no sound coming from the sub.

Please help!!!

I could be wrong, or maybe I just am not understanding your post completely...but if you are using high-level inputs on the amp, and rca outputs as the source for the signal...that may be the problem. I believe the high level inputs are to be used if there are no RCA outputs for sound. They would be used to take the actual power signal that would connect directly to a speaker. If you are running an rca out to the high-level input, it is possible the signal is too weak to produce any significant input to the amp.

Try connecting the rca out to the rca input on the amp and see if that works.

I am not using the rca inputs at all, stock head unit... I pulled the aftermarket head unit from my other car to test it with the amp (rca's instead of the high level inputs), still nothing.

if the two subs are the only speakers running off this amp then you should bridge your 4 channels to 2. you dont want to use your high level inputs for subs...highs are vocals and other high pitched noises. you want to use your low level inputs for the bass.
hope that helped. its hard to explain electronics over this...but any questions just let me know

high level input and low level input have nothing to do with sound frequency.....you can use high level inputs for a sub amp or a mid/high amp....it's not going to matter......

as far as the problem, I'd say take it to a shop and have them test it as stated above....
