So you guys think i need a lens huh?
hmmmmmmmmmm well i'll think of sumthing!
I kinda like them without a lens in the day you can't even tell they are there unless you look up close.
I will take some more pics of JUST the beam at night...

Does anybody know of a company that would mass produce these for me ? with better quality and lens of course :D

maybe you can fabricate a lens out of lexan since they're unbreakable.

First time I have seen this.. Very nice! I cant say I completely agree that they will be a glare hazard without a lens. I would have to see them at night coming at me... but as he mentioned, the LEDs have a 15 degree view angle, so that takes care of much of the directivity. A bulb has over a 180 degree (almost 360) view angle, which necessitates a lens to both direct the light in one place to create an intense beam and to avoid blinding others.

the lens would be for covering up the leds so bugs and road grime don't get in between individual leds. it makes for easier cleanup, not for glare.

I know that is what was meant by it the last time it was mentioned, I was referring to the earlier posts mentioning that it would not be directive enough without it. Think it would be perfect with a flat, clear lens to protect it.

ahh....and i think lexan would be the perfect material since they're unbreakable... i think they are pliable once heated up...wouldn't have to worry about them breaking like OEM fogs.

By popular request...

there you go...night time pics of just the beam....and all the glue i used to seal them up...hopefully that expensive piece of paper i have will pay off and none of the leds will short out or something....
-enjoy! :D

LOL i know it's overkill but hey...it's the only thing i could think of....if i had a circuit board CAD program that would be awsome and soo much of a cleaner install... oh well college budgets what'er ya gonna do

Id like to see a write up on how you got the lights to shine through from one side to the other and how to hook those up.

Great job dude!!!!!!

I could probably come up with the housing and lens...im just not much of an electrical engineer.

Looks like he hasn't got that far yet, right now it's hooked up through a direct 12v connection.

Ohhm man i love LEDs too! ever since they came out with superbright blue ones...If i get my hands on a pair of used headlights for like 50 bucks i'm gonna try and make LED headlights with those new 1 watt of 5 watt LEDs ...it'll be expensive but i KNOW it would look good.
