Default LED accents with SilverStars

Does anyone know if the silverstar headlights will melt the plastic bases of the LED's?

leds wouldn't do very well in the accent light because it has a very narrow angle of light, regular 194 bulbs would do better there. and plus LED doesn't work well with heat.

melting...are you kidding me. The only thing that gets hot is the bulb, the air surrounding it doesn't get nearly hot enough to melt anything let alone your bases. You lights will be fine.

The stock bulbs in the tC are Silverstars.

From what I've seen on the board, yes, the accent lights will melt if you replace them with LEDs with plastic base. They might last for days or weeks, but eventually they'll melt.

like jasonH said, there is a chance the led's in the accent/parking light could melt due to the heat of the head lights. i've read a few posts on this board from everyone and it seems there are mixed results, but the consensus is that eventually they will melt unless you have some very "cool running" head lamps. if you try it, you may want to pull them out every couple weeks to check them. also, if you go here and read the notes section, you will see that they warn you against using them in the same housing as the head lamps: http://www.superbrightleds.com/1157.htm

and maximus, leds look very good there. if you're worried about narrow angles of light, they do have high angle leds, but i've seen the "low angle" 6-led accent lights there, and they look very nice.

.

The lights on the tC aren't Silverstars. They are the same brand as Silverstars which is Sylvania. You have to actually go out and buy the Sylvania Silverstars.

Check the part number on the stock lights and give a call to Sylvania - they're like one digit off from the retail Silverstars, and Sylvania will confirm that they are OEM Silverstar bulbs.

Now, I won't say they're identical to the Silverstars on store shelves here. They could be like the European Silverstar bulbs (the Euro bulbs have the full spectrum of light while the U.S. bulbs have a coating to block some yellow to make them look bluer/whiter. Because of this, the Euro type are just a tiny bit brighter, but a bit less white.) But they are Silverstars.

The tC does not come stock with Silverstar bulbs.

Sylvania brand yes. But "Silverstars" are aftermarket bulbs. Just like "Cool Blue" and other aftermarket bulbs sold by the Silvania Company.
