Default LED Door locks

anyone know anything about LED door locks? I am thinking of getting some of these.

Anyone know if they are easy to install or know anything i would need to install them? Also, can you turn them on and off? Thanks in advance.

You probably have to get a switch for them. Anywhere has them. I like the OEM style switches... you can find them at Lowes or Home Depot.

Look for the Gardner Bender Rocker Switch part number GSW-45. This one fits right in the slot for the factory switches, it looks exactly like it too.

I have them in red. They are kinda a pain to install because you need to run wires through the doors into the dash. Just takes a little time to run all the wires. I would get them from ebay because I paid around $15 for mine back when they first started selling on ebay. Even now they usually ony go for about $18-20 shipped. $25 for a used set is kinda salty IMO.

Default Led door locks

I just installed mine last night took about a good 2 hours to get them in and operational. The hardest part is running the wires through the boots going from the doors to the inside of the car. You will need to supply your own switch as they dont come with one. I also got them from ebay and my total with shipping was $17.95. All in all i think they came out pretty nice.

to anyone who has done this before, how hard is the install. I have only done one DIY project before. Is the begginer, intermediate, or hard. Thanks

well, installing them is EASY, just take off the the door panels, and screw them on. Hard part as stated above is getting the wires out through the rubber boot, other than that its simple 2 wire set up.

if you have an emply slot below the a/c controls just pop out the plastic filler and the oem switch pops right in...no special wiring..Just ground the lights, run pos to one part of switch and a line from power source to other part of switch...very simple. I have mine below the e-brake, but i have several swiches

Sorry man didn't see that they were new. $25 isn't a bad price for them, you can just find some a little less if you look around. Your trying to help your buddy and I totally understand that.

Why put a switch on them? I have the orange ones for my RS1.0 and sport them all the time. Am I gonna get pulled over for them being on? I thought maybe with them being amber I might not have any issues?

anyone know if you can switch out the LED's in those?? I can't seem to find any clear housing w/ white LED's in them. Was thinking I may have to buy regular ones and then switch out the LED's.

^^^ yes you can switch out the LEDs. In the base of the door lock there is a small piece of plastic that is tack glued in place. This small piece of plastic is what hold the LEDs in place. The LEDs are very tiny, and there is also a resistor in there as well.

ericroadking .. why didnt you just wire tap the door lock into your exsisting RS1 lighting? At one time i had over 60 LED through out my interior .. all wired up to the single switch that came with the car for the interior lighting.

For those who arent sure of the install ... it really isnt that hard if you know some little tricks ... tricks that i wish i knew when i installed mine, but later learned from doing the GFs RS1.

Get your hands on a long ZipTie. HomeDepot sells a pack that are around 2 feet in length. I believe they are in the air duct section. Having these will allow you to FISH the wires through the rubber boots with minimal effort. Also, you not need to use a heavy guage wire to get the locks to light up. Radio Shack has small spools of wire for a couple of dollars. I think mine was a 20 gauge maybe even 24? There is 2 different kinds of wire though, one that is a solid coppor core wire and the other is thin strands of copper. Either will work as i have used both, but the strand wire is easier to sodder to.

Remove the door panels and the plastic lining. Also remove the door sills .. and the B pillar bottoms. These come right out if you take one side and just pull in towards the center of the door. Youll also have to remove the interior kick panels underneath the dash. Do a little looking around and find the wires that go into the doors. Using the ZipTie push and poke your way through into the door cavity itself. Using some electrical tape tape a decent length of wire to the ZipTie. Then pull it back through. Its just that easy. Ground one wire to the inside of the door. Just pick a bold and theres your ground. I also soddered all my connections and used heat shrink ( which is hard to find in such a small wire size ).

When i did mine it took over an hour for each door. I physically removed the rubber boots from each door and ran my wires. It wasnt until i was working on my GFs car that her bro showed me how to use the ZipTie and cut the entire install time to just over an hour for all 4!
