Default lost HVAC lights after headunit changeout

Darn...lost my HVAC (heat, vent & AC) lights after opening dash area of my 2004 xB to change out the headunit for a 2006 headunit for optimal IPOD control. The lights are just gone and can't find a fuze or pulled wire going into the fan control plug. Baffling...anybody else seen this?

PS: IPOD is sweet with the USASPEC interface and love the volume **** of the 2006 HU.

Are your guage lights out to? Did you check the dimmer to make sure it wasnt all the way down? Check to see if there was a fuse under the hood? Do you have a multimeter? Let us know the answers to these and maybe we can start you in the right direction.

Default HVAC Lights

Thanks in advance for trying to help

Q:Are your guage lights out to?
A: No just the two LEDS (they spread out thru clear light columns), right and left of the Fan Control

Q: Did you check the dimmer to make sure it wasnt all the way down?
A: Lights are normal at guages and radio headunit

Q: Check to see if there was a fuse under the hood?
A: Checked the manual for fuze IDs...they're all higher level

Q: Do you have a multimeter?
A: Two; digital and smaller analog

"Let us know the answers to these and maybe we can start you in the right direction."

======

If I could follow the output from the dimmer............humm.

Did you double check you pluged everything on the dash back in, no bent pins or anything, check for power at the controls then and see what power your getting. Also try un plugging the new radio, try all possiblities to see by back tracking. let us know what you find.

Default HVAC Lights

Q: Did you double check you pluged everything on the dash back in,
A: Only plugs removed were from the radio head unit...never pulled any plugs....initially...in the HVAC row below the head unit.

Q: no bent pins or anything,
A: I checked all pins in the HVAC set of 3 plugs (AC plug, Emerg flasher plug, Fan plug). I didn't check pins in the radio head unit (the only plugs originally pulled to swap out head units) .

Q: check for power at the controls then and see what power your getting.
A: all power is there, AC/Emerg flasher/ fan speeds

Q: Also try un plugging the new radio,
A: Ok...so you're thinking the lighting source from the dimmer is coming through the radio head unit...there is one empty female plug that goes nowhere from one of the two radio plug wire bundles but I don't see a match male plug below in the HVAC plug area.

"try all possiblities to see by back tracking. let us know what you find."
A: Thanks for the encouragement...will get back to you.

Troubleshooting is an artform, it took me many years at my work to get good at it. Its all about process of elimination, and changing variables to find the problem. Sounds like youve checked most of the stuff i would have. I guess it is possible the bulbs blew out at the same time, i have seen that before. Can you get to the bulbs to check them for power or to see the filaments in them. Your doing a great job at troubleshooting, now to just find the problem, let us know.

S: Troubleshooting is an artform,
A: An exercise in P-Cubed, Persistence-Patience-Perspiration

S: it took me many years at my work to get good at it. Its all about process of elimination, and changing variables to find the problem.
A: true enough...new tool in the box is SCIONLIFE...and the P3 of others like you.

S: Sounds like youve checked most of the stuff i would have.
A: You've given me new notions...pulling the dimmer switch...looking for wiring ID that might trace out.

Q: I guess it is possible the bulbs blew out at the same time, i have seen that before.
A: I pulled one and it looks like an LED...and perfect.

Will POSTSCRIPT this...thanks.

Sorry to dust off and bump up an old thread, but I've run into the same problem. Installed a new HU, and the lights for the HVAC controls no longer work, nor does the illumination for the A/C, rear defrost, pass. seatbelt, and hazards. The actual controls work and the interior light and the gauge cluster lights work. All fuses look good, though I'm not sure which actual fuse controls these lights. All connections look tight.

Any suggestions?

For future reference in case anyone else has this. If you lose your lights for your HVAC controls, you more than likely fried the control panel and will have to replace it. The control panel is the piece that houses the blower motor speed control ****. The whole assembly comes from the dealer with AC, defrost, and hazard switches as well as the control panel. About $120 from your favorite discount dealer.

Pop it in and your lights will work again. YMMV.

I was changing those lights out and took out that control panel not knowing that i didn't need to and after i put it back together, the a/c would not come on when i turned the ****. If I turn it slightly it will come on before it gets to the first speed but i can't let it go or it turns off. Do y'all think I would need to replace that panel or is it hopefully a simple fix?
