Here's what i posted in a similar topic awhile back:

Astroflex (astrostart) makes several models of remote start/alarms systems that work really well with manual cars.

To prepare your car for remote starting the next time you use it astro needs these steps to be done:
- while parking and before turning off car, you have to hit the remote start button, put the car in neutral and set the e-brake (senses ebrake)
- take your keys and exit the vehicle (car will remain running)
- shut door. the car will sense that you closed the door (turns off engine) and the preparation is now complete for the next remote start. If by chance you forgot something and reopen the door, it will prevent next remote starting just to ensure you didnt shift into gear or release the ebrake.

Pretty slick actually, about the only thing they could do since there isnt truely a 'neutral detection switch" on cars.

they dont sell remote starts for manual trannys but you can EASILY instal a remote start in a manual tranny..

no you dont ground the clutch wire

no its not difficult

yes it is very easy

you connect the wires as if you were going to remote start an automatic tranny

you dont wire the nuetral saftey wires when wriing into manual

all you do is bypass the clutch, by simply puting the 2 wires together and disconnecting the plug...simple as that....

there are a few units on the market that are capable of doing it semi-safely... it's quite a bit of a hassle though... before you get out of the car, hit a button, get out the car (car is still running) hit lock and the car disarms/shuts down... and is able to remote s start...

Clifford G5 Avant Guard
Clifford Solaris (discontinued)
Compustar... don't know the model

Clifford Avantguard 5.5 is suppossed to have it too...

A bumper is a lot cheaper then a hospital bill...

yes, compustar and clifford both make models that are designed for manual transmission cars.

there are also cars out there they have a neutral safety switch from the factory. i think it's either the subaru wrx or the mitsubishi evo that has that. can't remember where i read it.

it's possible and it's very easy to do for any competent alarm installer.

if your car is in gear with the e-brake on, and you use the remote start how is it going to go anywhere?

wouldn't the e-brake stop it?

In the UK it is legal. Most of the newer models have a sensor on the shifter that can sense if its in gear or not, if it is it wont let you start the car.

Also, dont buy Clifford, they are a load of poo. They are very buggy

The car could hop and the engine will stop, just as if you were in gear and turned on the engine on with a key I would guess.

a lot of remote start systems are set to a default that will try to start the car 3 times. one of those times, the e-brake might fail and send the car moving. i've never heard of anyone getting hit by a remote started car but i've heard of other cars in proximity getting hit.

My old boss at Circuit City Roadshop came up with a nifty device for his saturn. It could detect if the car was in gear and if it was it wouldn't remote start...

From what I recall he installed a ring around his shifter that was magnetized. He attached his neutral safety wire to the shifter. So when the car is in gear it won't start. I'm sure there was a little more to it but that was the short version he told me.

I plan on installing my 791 from my maxima into my 5spd tC when it comes in. And hopefully...finding my old boss to help me.

I'm getting my 5 speed xB alarmed and autostarted today. It's possible to add the autostarter to a manual car, just make sure you don't leave it in gear when trying to autostart it, otherwise things will get exciting.
