Default this may sound stupid..but will it work?

yea so i got my woofer....next step is to give it a home. one option is to have a box built for me.
but my other idea\option is this

what if i bought a premade box from memphis and lined it wwith fiberglass on the inside for added strength. would this work?

what the hell kind of woofer is it that'll destroy a box?

just add some bracing and you'll be fine.

Just make sure that the premade box contains the right amount of airspace. And you may want to seal off the port on it since you are using a completely different sub than it was made for. I am assuming you mean the box that is offered by scion?

IF the box is the correct size your sub isn't going to destroy nothing but your ear drums.

Yeah kinda a confusing question. Post the woofer size and make and we'll all give ya a answer ASAP. I personally like to custom build my own box per speaker. For my tC I just went with a single 10" Infinity sub.

It pounds HARD, but i built a .75 cubic ft sealed box for it. Inifinity doesn't reccomend any filler as it "muffles" the sound. Generally I prefer a size specific sealed box, built to spec(+/- .01) cubic ft., getting alot of CLEAN watts and BOOM.
I say just make a box yourself or at least get a custom one built for ya will most always sound 100 X better that way.

i agree with scion tcluva. personally i like the sound of a small sealed box, i have a .85ft^3 box for my .1ft^ 3 sub. that gives me .75, jsut what the sub ordered.

as far as destroying a box with a sub? id love the see the sub and amp your using!

If i were you, i would get a box made or make one yourself for those subs.. I have 2 of them in my XB right now and i built the box for them..

A pre-fab box will be too cheap and most likely will be made out of particle board of some sort, when you want MDF.. You can get a pre-fab box, but they are cheap and are not worth the money.. So get one made.... if you can

sounds like you more into noise than music,if your speakers is brand new it should come with a diagram of the size of the box that would match your speaker, just build or buy a box as the diagram and you should have no problem works for me...

the sub is a 15in memphis MOJO. this will destroy a premade box. but no one answered my question...can i layer a premade box with fiberglass to make it stronger? the box is from memphis so its pretty close to the air space needed.

You can do it. But I still think you'd be better off with a well made mdf box. 3/4" mdf is well stronger than fiberglass.

if you are buying a premade box from Memphis, see if they make one for that sub. maybe they have one that just perfect for it.

As for fiberglassing the inside of the box. unless you are adding like 1/2" of thickness all around it wont do much for a poorly made box, and doing so will rob you of air space. Also, you should geta ported box which will be much harder to "destroy"

the box is from memphis and it does have close to the air space my sub wants, and its ported. i think ill just try my luck with the premade box. if the sub breaks it then i guess i can play it off by bragging...lol

thanks you guys
