Most stock looking navigation double-din list: [most stock looking -> least stock looking(so aftermarket)]
1. Pioneer AVIC-D1 - no dvd playback
2. Eclipse AVN5435 - what i'm using now!
3. Eclipse AVN2454 - older verson of 5435
4. Kenwood DDX-7015 - you will need to add the extra navigation unit
5. Pioneer AVIC-N1/N2 - flip-out screen
hope these infos help you decide! Trust me? get the avn5435! Dont like/need dvd playback, definitely go for avic-d1!

I would be interested in seeing someone who had done the research do a comparison of the AVN5435 and the AVIC-D1 - same form factor on each, but I know they can do some different stuff. Especially if anyone had either of them, some insights might be good. I know the D1 has the Trafficnav feature and the 5435 can do DVD movies, but what are the other differences? I think the D1 is both XM and Sirius ready, but I'm not positive on that. Anyone?
If sound quality is of any importance to you the eclipse model is miles ahead of the pioneer. I sell both and have heard both and it is no contest.
The AVN5435 is the best bang for the buck hands down. The only thing I would wait on if I were you(I am waiting myself) is there is a model soon to come out with a built in 30gb hard drive 10gb dedicated to store nav info and 20gb for audio storage. This way you can have your nav up and runing while DVDs are playing....... not sure yet the price difference but if only a coupla hundred dollars extra, which is what I am expecting, it is well worth it!!

i ahve the eclipse avn 2454. i dont liek the new version with that extra silver piece on top, and i got a pretty good deal 2100 at good guys cause they where getting the new ones i guess and i got a 5 year warrenty .
That sounds pretty nice, but a bit unnecessary. The only thing I like about the HD is that it implies that maybe navigation updates will be easier than they were in the past - if anyone has any news on that, I'd love to hear it. As I understand it now, the only updates are periodic new DVDs they issue, which are supposed to be very expensive. If anyone offered supplemental downloads that you could load onto the drive, that would be perfect! I'll be waiting anyway just because I don't have the money - we'll see what's out there if and when I'm ready to buy.
Even though I feel I live in the contruction capitol of the world and use my car for work, I dont see needing upgraded mapping more than every 5 years, at most. For the once in a blue moon that I would be trying to find a brand new house to get to in a newly developed area years from now, I will by then more than likely have a cell phone with a mapquest type feature that can find it. So my theory is by the time I would want a new nav disc, phone technology will be to the point where it will be just as efficient as my nav is, and either way I will probably have a new car.
and yes the 5495 my rep didnt know the model# and as of days ago still was not on www.eclipse-web.com. And from what I can tell there is a $400 difference, retail, between the 5435 and the 5495.

Navman ICN 630. Although it doesn't fit into the dash, the holder suction cups onto the windshield and sits nicely next to my radar detector. Its wonderful. Couldn't be much happier with it. http://www.navman.com
haha...before I had my AVN5435, I use these...(in order)
1. My brain + street maps
2. Sony Clie NX80V + Sony Clie GPS Car Cradle CC5
3. Sony Clie TH55E + Navman 4460 Bluetooth GPS
4. Eclipse AVN5435 right now, I still use my brain most of the time, but i just like to have it in my tC. I feel much cooler for myself. My gf will not be so lost, since she can hardly use her brain to route

I haven't heard of anyone actually owning one yet, but there should be no fit problem. It's double DIN like everything else. As other people have stated, you'll probably have to redrill the holes in the bracket to move it back just a bit so the cover will close, but that's all I've heard.
How would i do that? Are there any tutorials on installing a double din nav system? Ive never really installed electronics in any of my cars. under the hood stuff im fine with, but not much experiance with electronics.
