good call on that nothing better than the OEM look IMO
now as far as how and how well it works, does anyone have knowledge on that?
i don't know about the camry system, but the prius one needs the hard buttons that are built into the car. i'm pretty sure that the Camry one can't play movies if that's a concern. I wouldn't buy OEM gear (costs a lot) unless i had the car that it was built for, which we don't.
As for the drilling out the bracket to make the cover fit right, check the ICE forum. Nobody has posted a D1 install, but people have definitely posted about installing other double DIN units and it should be similar.
As for installation, putting in a stereo is easy with basic experience. Putting in a unit with NAV, possibly sattelite radio and needs to be hooked into a bunch of wires in the car isn't child's play. If you don't know what you're doing, but you've got like $1700 for a NAV unit, get together another $200 or so and have it installed professionally.

Okay, people. I called eclipse today, and the girl there said the avn 5495 would be out in a week. So she couldn't tell me the price, but from reading some other post here I think it will retail for aroud 2400 or 2600 or 2800? I just remember it was a even number. But she said it will be out to dealers soon.
This is for those who have been saving up to purchase on with their job money, and also a heads up for those fast money dudes that just need to knock off some more people to get an extra 4 - 6 hundred dollar. If you have been saving your quarters like me, then keep saving cause its coming......

the 5495 will have a built in HD to store maps/info, rather than reading it off dvd.
Also, the 5495 allows you to pull directions based on phone numbers, whereas the 5435 and the 24xx do not offer that function.
There are a few more goodies to the xx95, but I dont recall them off the top of my head. Do a search on google, I'm sur you'll find plenty of info.

I searched around and I can find the following info:
- 30 gig HD, 10 gigs for Nav, the rest for music and stuff
- Retail is $2399 - street is probably around 2k.
The HD would be nice, but I don't need it - you can store a ton of music on a 25 cent CD if you're using MP3s. The only thing I really want (and the thing that manufacturers don't seem to care about adding) is Bluetooth.

No... to make it like the Prius Nav system... there are two cool things you can do.
1. If you turn on points of interest, you get names, addresses, and phone numbers. Push the number on the touchscreen, it calls them. The music mutes (or quiets), and the speaker on the driver's side is like a speakerphone. There is a mic around there somewhere too, but I don't know where.
2. Phone dialling - import the address book from your phone to the head unit. Dial either with that, voice commands, or numbers. Caller ID is displayed on the screen.
Both of those things sounded neat in theory, but seeing them actually work was even better. The head unit manufacturers have to know that those built in systems are ridiculously expensive for the functionality they give you - if you just wanted Nav, you'd get a stand alone device. It just goes to reason then that they'd include each feature that would make a big difference. You couldn't get bluetooth with that functionality built into a nav unit that wasn't your head unit. Man... I wish someone was selling that...

so then the asnwer should be yes: to facilitate transfering data from a PDA/phone to the Nav system
yeah, i've seen the new versions of the Nav systems, they are pretty cool. My father has it on his Lexus GS.

Right - I bet the Lexus system is similar. In a way it's data transfer and sync (contacts from your phone, etc.) but also to display caller ID info and to act as a speakerphone for calls. It's all just data in the end, but it's more than just file transfers. I know BlueTooth is more popular in Europe, but it's in most of the high end Motos, all the Sony Eriksons and some of the Nokias now... people have it - I want to use it!
found the 5495 on ebay.............1,999 there is one store selling them. I don't have the car yet, thats the only reason I'm telling you. But don't get it, Its mine! Don't go search for it either, its mine.
Well I don't think I could buy something that much on ebay anyway, It was just a episode on tv, detailing ebay it was like over an hour or something, i forgot the channel. But uhhh Im just going to see if the local dealer will lower there price if I bring in copy of the ebay page. "like match it mo-for or I'll buy it online and try to install it myself"
No I would probably **** up the install, but I'd still ask them to lower the price to somewhere around there

Lol
Actally, I misspoke....$1500 shipped for a 5495 is a re-duckulous price. Even $1500 unshipped is amazing. I was thinking the 5435, which is what I bought. $18-1900 for 5495 should then be about correct.

2400 without installation and only a 90 warranty from mickey shores........... just asked the assistant manager today. I just started asking today, he doesn't know when he'll get it though, I'm going to checkout car tunes sometime before the week is up.
