Need help with Rear Speaker Sound
Just bought 2006 XB and noticed the rear speaker sound and volume is horrible. I turned the fader all the way to the rear and still need to turn the volume up to 40-45 to hear them upfront. Took car to dealer and he stated this is normal for the XB. The fronts sounds OK for stock, but the rears are horrible. I am not a pro at this stuff and was just wondering if this was the norm. Its my wife's car and she really doesn't care but I figured the rears should sound close to the quality of the fronts. What gives??
Thanks

May sound dumb, but the rear are all the way in the rear, and behind the seats as well. Any reason sitting in the front of the car you would want ot hear the rear speakers.
The speakers in the front are components, and the rears are just a mid speaker, with no tweeter. Also, they are a smaller speaker. The fronts are 6.5" mid and 2" tweeter, the rear speakers are 5.25".
Hope this helps out.

Thanks Jason,
I realize that the speaker being all the way in the back behind the seats would cause some difference in the sound, but even when I open the hatch and listen standing right next the them, the sound level is like 20% of what the front are at the same volume with the fader almost all the way to the rear. Does this make sense? It just sounds almost as if the rear channel on the head unit is only putting out 10-20% of the power as the front channel or the speakers are not connected properly. Sound quality aside, am I wrong to assume that the volume of the rears should be close to the volume of the fronts with the seats down? Anyone in the rear seats can barely hear the radio the way it is now, even if windows are up and volume is up high. Just wondering if this is normal in the Scion XB.
Thanks all, I realize I am a newby and no where near as techincal as some.

Well, I doubt they'd do it like this...but...
An ideal setup wouldn't have rear fill, and if it was there, it'd naturally be quieter. I doubt the xB is setup like that, but never know

You are not experiencing anything out of the ordinary. I was hoping my new HU would fix this... no luck. I just replaced the rear speakers with good quality Infinitys with tweeters. I am hooking them and my sub to a 4-channel amp, but I am not done with the connections. Hopefully I'll have that rear sound I'd like. The rear speakers are paper... disappointing. I'll update with sound quality opinions this weekend.
I have noticed this with the xb i have too, i dont think you just got a defective HU or anything, i really dont notice the back speakers when i am driving, the front stage is loud enough to make me happy, although it would be nice to have a FULL 6 speaker system they say you are buying, cause really you can only hear 4 of the 6 speakers. i was going to replace all the speakers with infiniti but if replacing the backs wont make a diff i wont bother. hooking up a 4 channel amp should raise the volume of all 4 speakers i would assume, but it depends on if you want to take it that far or not.
Make sure you mess with the SSP button on the HU put it on hear and then crank it the backs will be louder that if its on neutral.
