...oh...

I gotcha. Either way, I'm gonna have to figure out where to put it. It is SO close to fitting under the seat. I wonder if I can finagle the underseat somehow to get it in there. That would be perfect. If not, I might have to ditch the spare. Thanks again for the help. I'll keep you 'posted.'

Okay, I need a clue...How should I mount my tweeters? They almost fit in the stock slots, but not quite. I could sand the edges of the factory panels to let them protrude through, though it wouldn't look particularly 'stock.'

Also, should I swap out the factory speaker wire?

I'm quickly discovering that there's ALOT to this...

And boy, I wish someone would do a tech-section write-up for amp installation and speaker installation for these cars. I don't know what I'm doing, and I feel bad asking ALL THESE QUESTIONS.

For example? Radio Shack speaker wire? Seriously, I don't know. Can you recommend good brands and gauges? Thanks.

any speaker wire will work really.... 18 ga would probably do well... I'd run the speaker wire at least 12" away from where the power wire runs though as to not get any interference... main thing is to keep your signal wires(rca's/speaker wires) from running parallel directly next to the power...

Werd. I can handle that. I just posted elsewhere about MDF, so maybe you have some advice about it. But as for this post, you've been most helpful. Things are progressing slowly but surely...

Just wanted to let you know that The amp will fit comfortably on top of the little fiber cover that goes over the spare tire. So I don't have to abandon anything. You were right all along! Thanks again, lifesaver.

Also, I've decided that if I were to design home-made body armour, I'd probably use MDF.

Okay, I've got the car all wired up for sound...now I need to get the speakers in. I'm making my own spacers with TanakaSan's help...What a man! But, I have a question about mounting the speakers and spacers...should I attempt to seal the spacers to the door, like with caulk or something? How about the speakers to the spacers?

Also, what about the tweeters? How do people install these, wiring and mounting?

Clueless,

Sliphorn

sealing the spacer to the door probably wouldn't be a bad idea, but it's not entirely necessary...

I've not worked on an xA, so I can't be of much help on the mounting.... where are the stock tweets?

They are located on the door, on a little trianglular section just east of the window (on the driver's side.)

You just pop the panel, and there they are!

I've seen some designs for mounting them, but never my paws on them. I'd sure like to wrap this up. TC GUY, you know better then anybody how long I've been at this!

OOOHH the sail panel?? the cover that goes on the inside part of where the side-view mirrors are?? pull the whole triangular sail panel off and mess with mounting them under there... other than that, maybe surface mounting them over top of the sail panel where they're in plain sight (this MIGHT give you the opprotunity to adjust them accordingly to your ear's taste in imaging / staging...

Yeah, for sure that's where they mount, I just don't know how to mount them. I'll have to build some kindad bracket or sumfin'.

if you're going to mount them on top of the sail panel (visible) your components should have mounts to put them in... if they're going inside the panel, you may still be able to use the tweeter mounts that came with the component system or you may have to fab up some brackets

Right. They'll definitely go inside the sail panel. I just need to make some mounts for them. What I'm wondering is how to physically mount them. Glue? They have no scerw holes. They're flat in the back.

They did come with mounts, I'm just not sure what to do with them.

screw the mount to the door an push the tweeter into them after connecting the wires through the back of the mount... or double sided high adhesion stick tape/ vel-cro

gotta be careful though... some of that stuff will melt and lose adhesion in the sun/heat
