Default other oem toyota headunits? or scion headunits in other toy?

well toyota only has a few harnesses out in ALL of their cars..
question is..
will a scion headunit go into a camry? or a sienna?
i think it will..
now is that also backwards compatible too?
can i use a sienna headunit..

now comes the main question. if i plug my headunit into my dads sienna..
will the volume controls on the steering wheel work?

I know that scion units work in MANY other cars. it all depends if the stereo surround will work.

Yes, I know a lot of Tundra guys get Scion 6 disk changers off eBay to upgrade their stereos.

The thing is, a lot of Toyota radios use external amplified stereos, so the plugs in the back of the stereo don't look the same. They use a small rectangle amp that sits a few inches below the headunit, behind the HVAC controls. If you remove that amp, you'll see that the wires feeding into it plug in directly w/ the Scion stock stereo - (since it's internally amplified).

From what I understand most 03+ toyota double din stereos (with the exception of prius) are interchangeable.

Note: 03+ Sienna is directly interchangeable, as long as it's not the upgraded JBL unit. Just remove amp like I said & you can use the wires that originally feed into that. You will most likely lose steering wheel controls.

It prolly won't work in the Matrix/Vibe as the headunit is a GM item. One of the very few downfalls of the GM/Toyota venture on an otherwise nice platform.

The JBL upgraded vehicles are externally amplified, however the amp is not right behind the headunit, it's under the rear passenger seat. Take a look at the wires that go into the amp, and see if that harness looks the same as the Scion one. I doubt it will since it's got more speakers which means more wires for a different harness - but if it does it's just a matter of extending those wires from your backseat to the headunit - much more difficult than the other cars but it can be done.

i put it in my 92 camry with no issue, just plugged it in... had to trim the sides to fit in the regular double din slot of the camry compared to the wide dins of the xB
