PDA/GPS Navigation
I was wondering if anyone uses a gps enabled pda for navigation in their car and if its any good like a regular in-car navigation set up (like an avic n1 or eclipse). I’m looking to buy a pda/gps instead of an in-car setup because a gps enabled pda cost a lot less and is portable. Im not sure what brand or what software is good for this, so please help me out if you can. Thanks
Something like this any good?

I have the Garmin ique 3600 it was about 500 ive had no problems with it and it works great i would suggest getting screen protectors for anyof them if you do get one the screens always seem to get like dirt on them that you cant seem to get off with anything almost like tiny scratches
Yeah I really enjoy my Ique 3600...I used alot when I had my camry and really appreciated the fact that I could move it to any car (I bought the friction mount). I recently got AVN 5435 because I didn't want to lost the "clean" look of the dash. PM me if you're interested in my Ique--it's on the market now since I have another nav.
The maps are good (better than on my Eclipse) and the voice guidance is also very good--the screen is alot smaller than AVN unit but it was still very easy to read...
What other units are you looking at?

i'd recommend magellan or hp, magellan roadmate 300 has exceptional touchscreen error rate is dismal compared to others latest technology.
HP you get the pda use of it and i've heard a lot of good things about it very simple to use

I've been using the NavMan iCN 510 for about a month now, and it works flawlessly. It comes with everything needed, the mount works great, works on a rechargeable battery, has a pretty big touchscreen, has voice prompts without being plugged into anything. It gets my vote.
I use a Dell Axim X30 with a Belkin bluetooth receiver. Prior to this I had a Dell X5 with a CF antenna. Both use similar software. I have used both units in different states from coast to coast.
Sometimes the software will send you a route that you would not normally have taken had you known the territory. That being said, using the pda method is great.
Using a pda allows you to do much more than just having an indash system. The pda can be used for many things other than navigation.
Here is a link to a good list of uses for pdas:

friend just got the navman pin pocket pc gps. i wouldnt recomend it. i wouldnt mix the pocket pc with gps, both lacks performance in this particular application. another friend also had the dell with flash card gps and that one really sucked.

I currently use a Palm T3/I.Trek Bluetooth GPS Receiver/TomTom Navigator 2004 for my PDA Navigation.
The I.Trek BT GPS is a huge improvment over the wired GPS I was using. It tracks more sats, and I can toss it in the back seat and still get 6 sats. Walk around with it, etc. Quite handy and excellent battery life. It is super fast to acquire sats compated to my older wired setup, and, as I said above, can hold quite a few sats while placed in places other than the dash.

I have a Tapawave Zodiac and just bought a Holux GR-230 Bluetooth GPS receiver over ebay, but ut has yet to arrive. I plan on mounting my Zodiac on the steering column of my XB. I will post pictures when it is all done. Until then you check this link out for more on the Zodiac and BLuetooth GPS~
