Default Pioneer XM reciever????(GEX-P920XM)

I picked up aecond hand Pioneer XM reciever (GEX-P920XM) Just a couple questions Can the IP Bus cable be cut and shortened with out causing any real problems? I dont want to loose 15' of cable in the dash. And I dont have any paper work with it so I dont know for shure It has 12Volt power does this need to be constant or can I controll this from to the remote turn on?
I would put it under the seat but the IP Bus cable for my TV/DVD audio cable is only about a foot long.

Hope this makes sense,Scott
