Default Problem with car after stereo install!

Ok, I installed my Kicker 15" L7 and 1200watt amp yesterday. When I reconnected the battery to test and tune the system my check engine light, VSC light, and trac off lights are on. My car also has a rough idle and wont go past 3,000 rpms. Now I know I installed the system correctly since I have done it in my cars hundreds of times. Has anyone else experienced any problems like this? Is there a known issue with installing systems?

The only thing that may have happened is that I accidently hit metal while tightening the battery terminal. I dont think that could have done anything but I am going to check all my fuses and see what happens. Any info would be a great help.

Mike, When you reconnected the battery, you should not worry about touching metal because the only terminal that should be off is the negative, I would search the tech section here or your manual and I think the light need to be reset.

Well it is not just the light. The car is running like crap also. Wont go pass 3,000 rpms with a very rough idle as well.

Did you drill a hole through your firewall for the power wire? Did you accidentally drill a hole through your brake booster? i have seen that happen before and the car ran very rough

nope, I cut a small slit in the factory rubber grommet where the cars wiring harnes goes through the firewall and ran it right next to that.

I just tried that and maybe I am doing something wrong. I disconnect the negative terminal and discharge the system by pressing the brake. let it sit for about 15 mins and then reconnect but it does absolutely nothing.

Please advise if I am doing this incorrectly.

What Sci_Tc_Guy said, about the ECU reset, go to the tech sect at the top of the page and find RESETTING the ECU, I think it is fuse # 12, try it out.

Well i have tried the fuse idea and got no change. I am starting to think that I have a bad MAF. Are the MAF the same in both the XA and XB? My brother has an XA and if they are the same I will just see if I can change them out and see if that makes any difference.

Would I cause any damage to my bothers MAF by switching them?

Thanks for all the comments and help so far btw.

Just to make sure...you didn't accidentally slice any wires in the harness, did you?

Well it is official! It was my MAF sensor. I am assuming that it had something to do with my CAI. Just wierd how it happened the same time as my stereo install. Well do I need to remove my CAI before taking it to the dealer? Any idea about the price of a MAF?

Thanks again for all your help.

I am going to re-install my stock air box when I get a chance and take it up for a oil change, tire rotation, and MAF replacement.

Thanks all.

Well luckily I saved everysingle bolt and piece from the stock assembly and it only took me about an hour to get the CAI out and the factory assembly back in. So I am going to take it to the dealer tomorrow sometime and have them fix it. Should I take out my subwoofer box and wiring?

Good Luck Man

I work at a dealership and I highly suggust depending on your CAI, put the stock back on.

If you have the AEM cold air induction system you shouldn't have a dealer problems.

you cant void a warrenty useless u liek splice one of the car's wires or interfer with the cars electronics. But your not because your going through the battery. U are cool with keeping your CAI because all you did was just upgraded your air filter basically......I had the same prob with my car. if you have an Automatic, it might be the TPS(sensor) - Throttle Positioning Sensor, it could have went bad because your engine would have a high and rough idle, check and see if its the TPS sensor.

Well I know for a fact that it is the MAF sensor due to the fact that the car is in "limp" mode and wont go over 3,000 rpms as well as the fact that I switched out a differnt MAF sensor and all was fine. I am calling the dealer today to have them change it.
