Never installed the OEM armrest before but here's the instructions: http://trdsparks.com/install/00016-79270inst.pdf
Looks simple enough, though maybe someone else can offer better advice.

You need to get a long flat head screwdriver and pry the metal hook over the plastic part. Any other way is basically impossible.

Can anyone give me any hints on attaching the metal clamp part? I can't figure out how it attaches to the seat bracket.

Not a hint for the seat bracket but when attaching the metal ring, just wrap some of the thin packaging plastic around it and pull it. The plastic will help it slide on. I used the plastic the parts came in.

I got the wire clip attahed and the plastic trick worked great!!

I also pressed and pulled from the front seat. It seemed easier after I could not do it from the back.

Channel Locks worked for me. Also bending the metal bracket helped.

I know the feeling, the instructions are not that good. I think my problem was trying to put the hooked ends into the track area where the seat slides, vs the track supports that bolt to the car. You kind of need the screw in the rear center thing removed to slip under it. Thenpull up on the metal thing to slip in the arm rest support. Once you can slip it in the cup holder of the center thing, release the metal thing and slip the loop of metal into that little notch. I used a slotted screw driver too. It was hard and took a lot of prying. Afterwards you put on the top and screw the screw in the slot along the back of it.
