Default problem with stereo, sudden drop in volume.

hi there.

for some reason my car audio system is giving me trouble. it seems to play fine, BUT i have to crank it up twice than what is normal, used to be you could listen to a CD on level 10-12 normal without the engine running now i have to crank it to 20-25 to hear it. there is no notable sound that would indicated the speakers being busted and they are all 4 functioning well, balanced sound and all, but somehow the volume levels got messed up.

any ideas ?
i'm not a very techie person i might add, so if this seems like a silly question i apologize. i just don't have the money right now to take the car to a shop.

thanks
jp

Is it a stock radio?

Did the SSP get changed? type of car tC,xA,xB, xD

Is it on Hear? Neutral, or Feel?

The SSP button can be accidentally pressed some time causing it to change

hey,
yeah it's a stock radio on the xB 2006
i did try the SSP button but that's not the cause, it really is an intense drop in volume, even my wife noticed it when i asked her to check and her hearing is even better than mine.
