Default Problems With 6-Disc Changer (Having it Replaced) *UPDATE

The OEM Pioneer 6-Disc changer in my xA has been acting up. It started a few weeks ago with flashing an occasional error when trying to switch between discs. Now it's totally jammed up. It won't change discs, eject discs, or play discs. All I have is radio. I went by the dealership and they said "No problem..it's covered under warranty." So they ordered a new one for me. It's not the greatest unit in the world, but I'll take a free replacement over paying for a different one. Anyone else have their OEM player go bad?

Hey, that problem is very common with the 6 disc changer. It was such a widespread problem that they had to discontinue that HU. Here are some post of other people with the same problem.

Wow. Yeah, I'd say it's a common problem! If that HU has been discontinued, does that mean my replacement will be a different / newer model?

I'm not sure what they will give you. I've heard stories of people that still had problems with the replacement modles. Since you basically payed for an upgraded HU when you bought the car, I don't think it would be out of line to ask the dealer for the newer 06 iPod HU. If you still have problems with the replacements and the dealer won't do anything about it you might be able to pick up another scion HU off of ebay for less than $100. Anyways, good luck.

Thanks guys. I'll let you know how I make out with it. That would be great if they gave me the '06 model instead. I would MUCH rather have a volume **** instead of those stupid up & down buttons. Incidentally, I never paid for the upgrade to the changer in the first place. I ordered the car 100% stock (with the single disc player), but when it arrived it had the changer installed. My sales guy noticed it before we started the paperwork, but he just said, "Oh well..it was our mistake. You get it for free." I wasn't going to argue with him.

LOL...from reading all of the other threads, it doesn't look like it should be too hard! Three of the six discs in mine are "Burned" discs, which I've read might contribute to the problem (even though it shouldn't). If you are anywhere near the end of your warranty, maybe you should play with it constantly to see if you can make it happen. From what I've seen, it will sooner or later!

*UPDATE:
Well, I had the stereo replaced yesterday at the dealsership. It only took 20 minutes and everything works like new again. I was bummed to see that they gave me the same model HU again. I was really hoping I would get the newer model with the volume ****. Oh well, at least it was free.
I was thinking that if I could sell this new one on ebay for $40 and get one with the **** (also on ebay) for around $60, it might be worth the extra $20 or so. Does anyone know if they are exactly the same mounts and plugs? I only want to do it if it's a very simple switch with no re-wiring or custom work needed.
