Default pull down LID for DOUBLE DIN

i think we need to put our heads together and come up with some type of solution to our naked HUs. ive had this idea stuck in my head about making a ribbed, flexible cover that you could slide in and out on a track. think you might able to use a thin flexible plastic back with 1/2 tall hard plastic ribs that are spaced apart slightly. i think there may be just eneough room to make the opening youd need.

this is a terrible example but the mechanics would be something like this:

If you look at an old roll top desk, most are made with fabic on the back. This allows it to roll back and bend the tight corner. Maybe someone could glue billet square stock to a piece of black fabric and go from there. ??????????

I think even a replica kinda thing like the tC's flip down cover... like hard and flat.. Im actually starting to TRY to make one, but i cant find anything thin enough to fit in there.. because I have an aftermarket HU and the top i cut out a slit about an inch or so, so i can make a piece to slide in and out, and im just using something similar to the roll wheels you find on a computer desk like to roll in a keyboard , to make it come out, than just drop down, but hope all works out well, than maybe ill be able to write a DIY or sell them for special customers hehehe

Back in my IASCA days, I remember seeing a setup where someone had actually motorized the stock stereo face to flip in and out of the console over his aftermarket HU and EQ. It was pretty slick and totally deceptive!

I am all over this idea. With the range of different people that we have on this site I am sure we have enough brains to figure something out! Who ever does do this will be making themselves a pretty penny

I'm wanting to do the same thing, but was thinking of a hard cover lid; kinda like what's on the tc. Myabe put it on a roller track, so you can lift the lid and when it's parallel to the floor it slides back into the dash on the roller. I've never looked at the tc's lid to see how it works....how does it retract?

I like your flex cover idea though. Coincidently reminds me of a bread box....fitting for a xb!

I had talked to some friends about it and the best theory was a roll top system but the thing is what is the point of the cover? Obviously to cover your system and hide your expensive HU. Obviously if it did not look stock or fit with the rest of the vehicle a theif is going to be more curious about what is hiding beneath. Sorry just my two cents.

i personally was less worried about it litterally locking and keeping out theifs. If your junk is at least covered you automaticly deter 60% of the clowns who are lookin.
