Default Putting Head Unit in Storage Pocket in XB...

I have seen pics of people who have installed head units in the xb storage pocket in the center console. I was wondering how you got it to fit without sitcking out? Im not actually putting a head unit there, but an xbox cd rom drive. I cut out the back of the pocket and then the plastic behind where the pocket is. Im like maybe a little under an inch sticking out. I know this can be done! There is like this black plastic ____ with a checkered texture that if removed could robably give me the inch I need. Does anyone know what that is

I take the door off, cut a piece of 3/16 abs plastic and heat and bend the bottom end by the buttons. Then cut a hole in that for the radio. You will then need to cut the back end of the pocket off as well. You can also cut the back end of the pocket off and slide the radio in farther. Testing cutting off parts so you can make it fit snug that way and you can keep the door. You will also have to cut the plastic part behind the pocket so the wiring harness can fit. Another thing you will need to do is extend an aftermarket wiring harness 8 to 10 inches, and extend the antenna as well.
Hope that helps.
