Default Question about wiring LED's ?

I got a question for someone with electrical knowledge. This has nothing to do with my Scion or any Scion for that matter. I am wanting to wire up some LED's to a 9-volt battery and wanting to know how many I can wire up to a nine volt without using resistors or if I have to what size resistors I would need. I am wanting to use the same LED's that come in DEI alarms. I think they are like 3volt LED's. If I were to run 8 of them in series would this be possible off of a 9 volt with or without resistors? Or would I need to run less of them? Any help would be appreciated.

on a 9volt batt. u would be able to run 3LEDS in a series with out a resistor. each LED, if 3volt, takes 3volts from the load. your load which is 9volts would then allow u to run 3 in a series. to run 8 in a series you would need some way to increase the load voltage to 24volts. im not sure if theres a way to do that but ill read some of my elec textbooks....i really shouldnt have slept through elec class...

It's easier just to get LEDs with resistors and wire already installed.
